I've read several posts about people who are extremely dissatisfied and frustrated with the voice quality when making calls with Cingular's 7100g. Most of the complaints seem to be about the amount of outgoing background noise when talking into the handset (without a headset) in noisy environments.

Is there anybody out there that IS satisfied with the RF of the Cingular 7100g?? Or is everybody in agreement that the 7100g is terrible for voice?

I want to know if bad voice capability is the exception or the norm before i buy.

I hate mine as a phone... phone part is garbage

My RF is not as good as the moto v400 I had before, but is not a disaster. I've only had really bad RF twice in the 7 months I've had the phone (ie impossible to make calls). If the 8700c really is better, I'll probably get one of those after (1) OS is stable, (2) pocketday works, and (3) price drops.

No problems. It's fine as a phone.

You need to realize that most of the posting on any product related forum is sheer *****ing and whining. You rarely see posts that praise a product. The same goes for car forums, software forums, stereo forums ... whatever.

The phone is fine. Go for it and take all the *****ing with a grain of salt.

I have a 7100g. The phone is mediocre at best and often has crackles in the voice. I hope to get an 8700 tomorrow. I used one at one of the launch parties. Listen to the recordings at www.barjohn.com.

The phone sucks. An 8700 is on the way and I am hoping it will better along with better Bluetooth.

I would agree except with the latest 4.0.2 software from Cingular, both the Bluetooth volume is louder and the calls clearer on my 7100g

The only time I get crackling,etc is when I'm in a low signal area and in that case, I'd rather have the thing crackle than drop the call - had the thing for over a year and it's never dropped a call. RF is excellent too.

Keep in mind, I got my unit before it was available from Cingular from eAccess (paid a lot for it) so I don't know if I just got a good batch - although early batches are rarely good. Who knows?
