Default How is your 8700c Locked?

Please Login to Remove!

I am on Cingular Blue and received my 8700c this week. For the heck of it, I placed a prepaid cingular sim in the devise and it worked for voice. This Cingular Sim never worked in my V551 that I received just a month ago. That devise was locked to blue.

Is Cingular now releasing devises that can use both blue and orange sims or is it possible that my 8700c is unlocked? I'm trying to find someone with T-mobile to confirm the latter.

Thanks for your input.

Mike

After the merger, Cingular changed their BlackBerrys to still be locked, except to Cingular or AT&T/Blue SIM cards. I have an 8700 with a Cingular/blue and it came up. They are still locked; it does not work with a T-Mobile SIM card.

I was told by my rep that the Blue and Orange designations are going away very soon and that all customers will become Gold. She also mentioned that the 8700c was their first device provisioned for both Blue and Orange customers, which I take to mean an old AT&T SIM card should work.

The 7290 was also provisioned that way. I have a "Cingular" branded 7290 with an AT&T branded SIM card in it.

Wirelessly posted (ATTW/

Cingular-Blue 7290 BI: BlackBerry7290/4.0.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1)

My Cingular-Blue 7290 was replaced under warranty (2 weeks short of a year!) with a refurbished unit. The Refurb doesn't boot up with the old ATTW splash screen, just the Blackberry screen like its broswer. It boots to the home screen much faster, I might add. The carrier sticker below the spacebar is solid black, no printing at all. There is no indication it's a Cingular Orange or Blue 7290. It was even refurbed in Hungary.
