8700 Going back to the store

I bought my 8700 a week ago and I found some dust under the screen. I am still on a 30 day return policy. Would you return yours just for this reason?

Yes. I can't stand dust under the screen. Do it while you can. Do you keep it in your pocket?

I use the plastic holster that came with it. I also have a leather case but I don't use it because it makes it bulky. What do you use?

brmcguire 12-02-2005 10:11 AM

I currently use the plastic holster as well. I will probably switch off that when newer cases become available. I am just crossing my fingers that I don't get dust under the screen. If I do, I hope its within my return policy so I can swap for a new one. That stuff just drives me nuts.

Yea I agree but I don't think they sealed the screens on these things. There should be a rubber or some kind of seal around the outer edge of the lcd panel pressing up against the screen. This would eliminate any dust but I am not sure blackberry thought of this. I am sure if they get plenty of complaints they will revise the production. If anyone has taken theirs apart they can confirm this or not.

Just by chance- did you guys use a duster to clean the keyboard area?

I found out years ago with a Nokia that when I used a compressed air duster to remove inter-key dust it forced it inside and under the display. I've never done that again.

This is really unfortunate. I can see a speck or two under mine by the phone keys at the bottom of the display.

I think where the send and end buttons are there is enough space for dust to get to the screen if the seals are not there.

Yeah had dust under screen on my unit. No reason to exchange it as it will keep happening...

mqlq76 12-02-2005 02:49 PM

I called a cingular store to see if they any instock at the store so i can exchange my phone and the rep asked me if i was a new customer (to me it sounded fishy) so i said yes i am a new customer..then he said they have in stock. i asked him to put it aside as i will come by tomorrow to pick it up. so a few minutes after i asked my friend to call the same store and he explained that he has a defective 8700C and he would like to exchange it for a new one as he is still in the 30 day return policy. They told him they didnt have any in stock. Now how will i ask the store tomorrow for the phone since i will only be exchanging it. any advice? Thanks.

They should be getting them in on some kind of delivery schedules- just tell him you need to swap your defective one for a fresh one. Once you're there its a lot different than on the phone when they can blow you off.

You are correct. If it does not get in thru the edge of the screen, the three buttons below the screen will provide plenty of room for the dust to enter.

I was so afraid that I was not seeing the build quality of previous Blackberrys in the 8700. The 8700 is close to being the 71XX series which I do not care for at all.

should i ask for the phone first since i already have them put it aside and then once the phone is out then i will go ahead and exchange the one that i have?

Walk in there like a swap is all pre-arranged- you called ahead, blah, blah, and you're there to pick up the new unit they are holding for you.
