Default Blackberry 8830 with Signal problems

Please Login to Remove!

Just got a Blackberry 8830 and operate on Sprint a few weeks ago. Unlucky for me Sprint and BIS were having issues for first three days so I had three days of pure fustration. Many phone calls later Sprint CS said they were having issues. Duh... really? I had a NEXTEL 7520 before. Although a real brick, the service worked great. Here's the problem. I currently show 2 bars in the signal strength. I go to make a call and the bars drop to 1 , then none, then lost signal. This is happening when standing still and not moving. When moving either on foot or vehicle the call really deterates to the point the call is almost impossible. Everyone is complaining. On Sprint's site it shows I'm in a good area for signal strength. I work and commute within a 10 mile radius. I'm running the following OS 4.5.0.135. Using BIS for Corporate email. Not the prefered method but it works fine. A few days ago the email stopped as well as the browser. I took the battery out and it reset itself. Email and browser working fine now. Sprint has many issues besides the customer service aspect which if you can avoid at all cost, do so! I have AT&T for personal use and use a Blackberry 8900 and know where all the dead spots are and just avoid those when possible. It just seems like the service on Sprint is crappy at best! I don't have the issues with call quality on AT&T like I do with Sprint. Any ideas most appreciated!

Sounds like a bad device if you are getting poor reception/coverage everywhere. Return it for another one.

What does the upper and lower case letters and number (1XEV) mean next to the signal meter? Mine constantly changes between the two and also the phone goes into roam mode.

Uppercase = Data

Lowercase = No data

Is the unit suppose to bounce back and forth? I have the Blackberry BIS provisioned. Yesterday at home it went into the roam mode several times.

Default Pull the SIM Card

If you are not travelling overseas pull the battery then pull the sim card out and put the sim card away and use the phone without the sim card.Ive done this with my Tour and the 8830 WE and it seems to work well. Just my 2 cents.
