Question 7130 0n Bell

Please Login to Remove!

Picked up a 7130e from Bell World today. I managed to be civil to the ****y little, smart-assed clerk.

Very pleased with the phone. The keybord is much better than the 7100r and 8700r that others in the office have. My only complaint is that I only have 1X service. No EV-DO logo in the top right of the screen.

Do any other Bell 7130e users have this problem?

Called Bell support but the tech wasn't much help. He said I should have "1XEV" or "1XEVDO" on the home screen - top right

Tried rebooting and turning the device and the radio on and off but no go! Everything else: PINS, email, phone, SMS works fine.

heh heh, the correct spelling of cokky got bleeped in the original post!

Well, I got mine in the US (New York City) and I needed to leave the store right after I was handed the phone to get to a meeting and put the phone in my pocket. After my meeting I noticed that EVDO wasn't enabled. I went back across the street to the Verizon store and the support person there took out the battery, put it back in and 1XEV showed up.

Worth a chick test on your end. If not, are you sure you're in an EVDO area?

I work in Ottawa ON which is an EV-DO area but I am not sure if Bell has deployed the service yet. Their EV-DO handhelds just went on sail 2-3 days ago so maybe the sevrice isn't running yet. I know 7250 owners don't have the service yet.

I tried the battery re+re and no luck.

Ooops, maybe I'm wrong! I checked out Bell's coverage map (http://www.businessonthego1.com/engl...rio_Quebec.pdf) and the EV-DO coverage is really limited compared to 1X. I thought EV-DO was replacing 1X but that doen't appear to be the case. It seems to be accessible the the annointed few! The map is so poor it's hard to read, but it looks like there is hardly any EV-DO coverage in Ontario and the Peoples Democratic Republic of Quebec at all. Even the "Center of the Universe" (a.k.a. Trawna) doesn't have full coverage. I guess we peasants in the boondocks will have to wait!
