Pocketday 2.8 works great on the 8700.
What else are you looking for? BBWeather also works.

I tried Pocketday a week ago and the fonts were to small to read. Did they fix this?

Which version of Pocketday do I need to download for Cingular BES? By reading their website, it seems like you want to use the regular version if possible, but may need to use the WAP version if you are GSM and on BES. I assume that you only want the WAP version if your corporate BES restricts web browsing? Since I have full web access I should use the regular version?

Thanks

bigdomer, if your BES policy has MDS enabled browsing then the regular version is fine. If you don't then the WAP version will work fine.

PocketDay version 2.8 (released several days ago) has been tweaked for the 8700 and has a list of other fixes and enhancements. See www.crossriversystems.com/pocketday under documentation for the full list of changes.

tirsh, not sure if I am the only one seeing this, I have looked around a bit and haven't found anything on it. I keep getting very bizarre SMS messages showing up in the PocketDay messages list, but nowhere else. They dont' seem to be from anyone in particular, they look more like they are network issues. I am not sure if it is just a PD thing or what, but as I do not see them anywhere else, I am not sure what to think.

thanks for the help in advance. (I'm running 2.8 on an 8700)

casmer,

Are you sure they aren't voicemail SMS messages. They ususally look odd...from nobody and say 1 message or something like that in the text.

Hello tirsch,

I'm pretty sure they are not voicemail messages, but I could be wrong. I thought when TMO switched over to its new voicemail system 6 months ago (or however long ago that was) that no more SMS messages were related to that?

Here is an example message that I received, maybe I just have a setting wrong. And just for the info, it seems they come in bundles of two messages, but the first does not look like this one, it is much smaller and just has a message id as the body:

Sent Dec 28, 2005 5:54am
From 3218:294819200
+"application/vnd.wap.mms-message-[4 boxes/misread chars]4817278303[4 misread chars]+phone#/TYPE=PLMN[3 unread chars]t[2 unread chars]LI[1 unread char]http://ip address/servlets/mms?

I did just happen to notice that the "phone#" listed in above message is my wife's phone, but I am positive that she was not sending me messages at 5:54am this morning or 99% of the other times I have seen this. Could it be something weird in her service or something that is continuing to send the garbled message out to me? Is there anything I can do?

Thanks,
Ed

Default 8700c and 3.0 / 2.8

OK this is what I have noticed. There seems to be an issue with the type of theme you are running and the day presented on the appointments. If you run the standard cingular theme there is a tendency for pd to open to a different day every time it is unholstered. Always in the past month. If however you use the Dimension Icon theme this does not happen and pd appears stable.

Go to settings...color/fonts
Then adjust the size to something like 16 and it's done.

Doesn't work for weather, but does for news and appointments.

ed, those are odd. I've never seen them. Maybe a call to cingular...

MGO...I'll test this today.

Fonts on weather are fixed so you can see everything. They have been made larger on the 8700 in version 2.8 and higher.

I have been running this for about 3 weeks I guess on my 8700c w/o any issues, I have 7 days left on my trail. I really like the weather, but don't find myself using anything else, so maybe I will look at BBWeather instead. I know it is meant to be an all-n-1 solution, but I just use the standard icons for that and don't think to use PD instead.

Am I missing something here?

I've been using the PocketDay trial on my 8700 after reading others post about how great it is. (I tried it on my 7290 long ago, but kept running into errors that rendered it useless.)

Anyway, it's a pretty slick summary of my day, and all of its features (including weather) have worked for me. One odd thing I've encountered involved a task: I'd changed the due-time in the normal BB tasks program but Pocket Day wouldn't see that change. I then clicked on the same task in PD, only to encounter that task with the old due-time. I changed it there, but it makes me wonder if I now have two tasks for the same thing on my BB somewhere?

Otherwise, I agree with nb_mitch about needing to remember to run this program. I too often just use the BB itself to figure out what my day holds in store... Maybe it's just a habit I need to learn? Regardless, I won't decide to purchase until the trial period ends. Not to bite the hand that feeds me, but RIM would rock if it incorporated this type of day-summary into its OS itself...

You should set PocketDay to be your standby screen by going to the PD Settings / Utilities. Set the Show PD after x minutes to a 1.

This will make sure that PD is running as then main app all the time. Set up hotkeys to all your favorite apps inside PD and then use PD to launch everything. You'll never go back!

I don't have a Utilities option in the settings dialog. It would be nice to have PD reappear automatically though.

It's there, you have to scroll down using the trackwheel.

Another way is to exit PocketDay. Then when you open it again, even a few seconds later, it will have the correct due-times.

Thumbs up PocketDay on 8700 v3.1

Perfect. No day instability. For those who want it to run as your default screen remember to disable the screen saver feature under screen and then under Utilities on PD Have it come up after boot and after 1 or 2 minutes of inactivity. I must say this is the one program I would never do without. Weather, stocks, sports and a summary screen of my day make this a must have. I have no financial interest but I must say this is the finest bb aftermarket software and berry 411 in number 2. A berry is not a berry without these2 programs in my humble opinion.
