Default Dial 1 to access voicemail is not working anymore

Please Login to Remove!

Yesterday I was able to access my voicemail by holding down the number 1. I don't know what happened, but today when I hold down the number 1 to access voicemail, the 8700c asks me if I want to assign the letter W to a phone number (speed dial). Anybody there that has this same problem? I don't know how to fix it. I don't want to create a speed dial with the letter W to access my voicemail number (didn't have to do that before). Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

A long time ago, you can remedy that by popping the battery out and then back in. I did notice that the 1/W dials VM on my 8700c...

I re-assigned the VM speed dial to "V". It always works from there.

Strange, it works just fine for me. I'm going to keep my eye on it though for any changes.

Voicemail system access is assigned to the speed dial "1" by default. To restore, find out from your carrier what the number to dial is for accessing voicemail and assign that to the speed dial "1" or any other number that you want to assign for voicemail calling. . . or you can add voicemail as a phonebook entry.

Thanks everyone for your prompt responses and assistance. I did what NJBlackBerry recommended:

"A long time ago, you can remedy that by popping the battery out and then back in. I did notice that the 1/W dials VM on my 8700c..."

and it worked beautifully. I am back in business.

Thanks a million.

Strange. This has never worked for me with my 8700c.

I asked about this awhile back (VM shortcut no more )

It just never came up...ever!! Had to put VM in my contacts and assigned it to 'V'.

Glad to hear it works for some people.

same thing here...mine stopped working last night and nothing has worked...even called Cingular and they said I had to take it to the store. Does anyone know how to program it into the 1/W key? When I try to program it's looking for a address book entry..I've never had an address book entry for voicemail...1 was all I needed to hit.

Mine doesn't even look for an address entry; it just pops up "Invalid Phone Number". The number is programmed in phone, options, vm and the access number is "17135570446" w/o quotes. My old 7280 is the same with a "+" in front of the number. I tried that here as well but nothing....

Not a big deal, just annoying as hell as it is a habit to just hold 1. I do not have the option of making 'w' a vm address entry as I just get a popup saying the num is invalid.

Any ideas?

Default Go to phone>add speed dial using trackwheel

You should be able to change the number assigned to the 1 W key

I can do that....but it's still an address book entry. Once again, not a big deal...just curious why this doesn't work on mine and others do not have issues.

I've reset...done just about everything. I don't think it ever worked on my 8700c.

Make sure that you have "Dial From Home Screen: YES".
Go to phone mode -> open menu and choose "Options" ->choose "General Options"-> scroll down to "Dial From Home Screen".

When you choose YES for this, you will lose functionality of QWERTY shortcuts for the other applications, (i.e. M-messages, C-compose, W-web browser, P-phone, etc.)

It works for me to dial the "w" from the home screen. I never knew it was suppose to, learned something new today, I guess I can go home now

Default Speed Dials not impacted by Dial from Home Screen Choice

I use the shortcuts, and all the speed dials at the same time. I would set Dial From Home Screen to No.

I think I figured out what the problem is with the one key dial using the number 1. Are those of you having problems by chance using the Newsclip program by Virtual Reach, I think it's beta 2.0??. My problem began yesterday after my install of this program. Iit just dawned on me and figured I'd undo that install just to see if that was the problem voila the functionality returned to my phone.

Maybe it was just my phone, but just in case anyone else uses Newsclip try removing.
