This might be a stupid question but i have no idea what the Blackberry Messenger icon is supposed to be used for? It has current conversations and contacts. Is this for texting???

It functions like an IM client just it utilizes the BlackBerry PIN-to-PIN protocol.

it is for coversations with other BB users via pin #'s

you can only invite contacts that have BB with this messenger software.

so instead of pinning back and forth you open cnversations.

i hope thats clear

Cingular actually does support it, it is just not preloaded on the device. You can download it (OTA) from http://www.blackberry.com/messenger works great.

That link says "Attention Cingular Wireless Customers: Cingular Wireless does not support BlackBerry Messenger at this time.
". But you got it to work?

I went to post my Brickbreaker score ( from brickbreaker menu ), There was an error saying only supported color devices (?) but there is a "Extras" link on the error page, clicked that, saw the blackberry messenger link, clicked it and it downloaded, been using it all weekend.

edit- I see that they have the disclaimer on there, I didn't see that before, either way its working great for me on Cingular.

Does it only work if the other party has it too. Or can they reply with a PIN message?

Do they need the client though? If they have the data plan.

Yes both must have the client. Not sure if you knew, but you can perform group chat with other BlackBerry users too.
