Default How many have defective 8700s?

Please Login to Remove!

I have deployed 15 - 8700s in the past week, and 3 of them have been defective out of the box.

They activate fine, but whenever the user trys to use them, they just constantly reboot and displays the hour glass.

The one provided JVM errors - reload of the OS using javaloader did not fix.

Replacing the units with Cingular has been the only solution which is a pain because most of our users are across the country.

Has anyone else had this problem? Is there something else I can do to possibly fix the 8700 so we don't have to keep returning them to Cingular?

I think I have a defective Bluetooth radio or whatever. When I went to exchange it the software in the replacement device would not boot up. As that was the only one they had in stock, I still have the one with defective bluetooth.

mine is defective, I get the same reboot problem...played with it non-stop this week and went through two recharge cycles...now it will reboot at least once per day. Already placed my replacement order with cingular. Hopefully it will get here tomorrow.

Some people have mentioned that the color of their LCD is off...mine is definitely a noticible green hue on one side as oppose to a bluer/white hue on the right..

I love this thing...but build quality is a little dissapointing

I don't think it's the build quality that is the the issue as the unit feels solid but rather the components that go through testing.

I've gone through one 8700r so far (both from the same store) and I still am skeptical to the reliability of the unit. My collegue had his constantly reloading and losing all of his settings (basically going back to initial power on with nothing on it) and doing the javaloader wipe and reload of the OS seems to have made it more stable but I'm not holding my breath...

We'll see how it goes...if I don't feel comfortable with it then I'll just warranty it out...

Mine was defective and they had to send me out a replacement. The original one I had would not vibrate in the holster. The replacement is in perfect working order.

Glad you guys are getting the quality tested and the bad units out of circulation before us TMO folks come aboard! Thanks you, thank you, thank you (Gomer Pile)!

My guess is that due to the high demand QA has not been doing as good a job of inspecting units as they should.
