Default Phone quality (e.g. dropped calls)

Please Login to Remove!

Hi....

I currently have a 7290 with Cingular, and I could scream most times I have to use the phone function. I drop calls and have crappy reception very frequently. I feel like sailing it out the window of the car. If it were not for the great email support - I probably would. My wife has a new Moto Razor V3 - with Cingular, and she never drops. I have areas where I know I will drop. She told me tonight that she drove right through those areas - no issues. It has got to be the HW electronics, SW, antenna, or something - right?

Does anyone have any specific experience with having had call drop issues with the 7290 (or any other BB) and now it is better/same/worse with the 8700C?

Thanks!!!

I too have had issues with call drops on the 7290 in weak signal areas. In my office the 7290 shows 3 bars and the 8700 shows 5. In very weak signal areas the 8700 will drop calls but it is no where near as bad as the 7290. In the areas where the 8700 drops calls so did the Motoroal V3 I tested. I hope this info helps.

I have noticed that I will be in an area that appears to have 4-5 bars. Suddenly, it will drop the call, and show no bars for a moment. Then, back to 4-5 bars!! I've called Cingular about this before. Big surprise -- they have no idea why this is happening...

Has been happening with my 7290, and still happening with my 8700. This is in the SF Bay Area. Lots of people complain about the Cingular network around here...

No dropped calls here (at least not yet!).
Speakerphone is amazing, also.

No dropped calls. Reception is great and better signal strength compared to my old 7290.

I can't say I've really noticed a difference as far as calls dropped between the 7290 and the 8700c on Cingular. However, I only had a Cingular 7290 for a couple of months prior to the 8700c.

Angry Multiple 7290's dropping calls

I have about 70 devices across the state of Texas connected to a BES in Denton, TX. I have had problems with a couple of devices in the past dropping calls in good service areas repeatedly for no apparent reason. In the past 2 months I have 10 devices with this problem. The devices are about 15 months old - I am beginning to think that Cingular is pushing something out to kill the devices so we have to spend $400 to get a new one.
Either way, my users are frustrated and I can't send the devices in for warranty anymore. Does anyone have further suggestions?
Thanks.

Rochester,

I have both the 8700c and Razr with Cingular. The 8700 is a step above the 7290 in comparison on phone/voice quality, however there is no comparision to the RAZR IMO. I have few to no probs in full service areas with the 8700 but outside that the RAZR is leaps and bounds past the BB in comparison.

I use my 8700 at work (I work for Cingular), and then have to switch to my RAZR at home (I live in a not so "high" service area)

IMO its worth it to step up to the 8700 but as far as phones go the RAZR is the better phone.

I have an 8700g unlocked with a cingular sim card, I have a few bad calls, but nothing serious. I definetly think I like the data service though, faster than tmo in my area, the only complaint I have is that my battery life has been shorter since I went to cingular, maybe because I don't carry 2 phones anymore and use the 8700g for everything.

FWIW, I have the same issue with T-Mo and the 8700g and 7290. It is so bad my execs have demanded RAZR's with their BB's now and they have stopped using the BB for phone calls at all! The behavior is exactly the same as you describe. Talking along, full bars, then 0 bars, call drops and full bars again, all within 2 seconds. Maybe it is a GSM issue?
