If I might ask, when did you order the device? I ordered mine on Nov. 28, and they continue to say it's out of stock, but "they'll be getting some soon". Even my friends who work at RIM continue to say the device is in very short supply.

I walked into a Rogers retail store in Burlington and asked "Say, do you have any Blackberry 8700's?". 15 minutes later I owned one.

Call them again. I ordered mine and got it back REAL fast. Only 2 days and it was in my hands. I tell ya though. This is ONE FAST handheld. The options now are amazing. MMS avaible now so my retarted friends can accually send me bar pics or whatnot. I am really excited to dig deeper.

Anyone notice the case looks dark blue under bright light? The scalloped sides are full black as are the majority of the keys.

Default MMS works - cool!

Hi JessMartin,

MMS works for you? - I have not tried it yet but I thought it may not work for some reason. Are your friends Rogers users as well? I have to get one of my drunk buddies to send me one this weekend.

I cannot believe how sweet these new units are. Have you noticed how fast the PIN confirmation comes back? And how fast the device boots up? I really think that these units are going to take off like hot cakes. I have been a BlackBerry user since 2000 and have always loved the units but have had to always acknowledge that Palm Units had better displays and whatnot - but now it is like all other devices on the market look like brain damaged clunky units.

I seriously am thinking about buying some more RIM Stock.

Cheers,

Eric

Default Did you order online?

Hi eazye,

Did you order your unit online? I placed an order at my local Rogers outlet as soon as the Press Release came out a month ago. When I went by two days before launch I asked if I was the first one on the list to get one and they said yes but don’t expect to get the units for a couple of weeks. As soon as I heard that I panicked!!! Went online and did a Hail Mary and ordered online – never got a confirmation that my order was received but 48 hours later the UPS truck showed up with the Unit – that was November 30th. I am still waiting for the invoice so that I can expense it! .

I predict there is going to be one wicked shortage for sure! As soon as anyone I know sees my unit they are completely sold! And what is so amazing is that I don’t know about you but with me and my BlackBerries I get really attached to my unit. Each one is always referred to as Old Faithful – they have all been trusted devices and even stuff like the Phone Info “Total Calls – 9:01:59:11” – badge of honour - 9 days of talking on the unit. So for existing users to take a look and then say – yes I will get the new one – that’s a big deal. I mean really I have not idea what it would be like in the States with even the notion that my blackberry service would go off the air because of NTP!

I really hope your unit arrives soon – you will absolutely love love love it!

Cheers,

Eric

So, check this out...

Speaker phone and the built in earpiece are amazing! the VERY loud speakers give for a nice and crisp conversation when christmas shopping! you know how thoese malls are at this time!! I have not yet explored the bluetooth options yet but, I do own my own Store that carries things like BB and Bluetooth (sorry rather not say the name f it )

BY THE WAY!!!
The new desktop software allows you to use your OLD PAM contacts, memos, tasks and such! very cool option!

After I posted my message, I got a call literally two hours later that my unit was in. I ordered it over the phone from a local Rogers store on Nov. 28th so I guess it took about 2 weeks to get it.

I really wonder what the supply is like for these devices. I talked to a few of my friends at RIM before I ordered and they said that supply was very scarce, so I was expecting to wait a month or so. However, I got mine fairly quickly and it seems that lots of people on the forum are getting there unit without much trouble.

This is my first time using a Blackberry, but so far I really, really, like it.

Default 8700 Num Key Works As A Cap Key

You guyz all know this key which is for caps on the new 8700 theres a num key with the same up arrow on the bottom left side of the unit. when pressed it wont let you enter numbers how ever it is acting as a cap lock. but however you can press the alt key to enter numbers but iam wondering is it just me whose having this problem or did RIM make a booboo. thanx guyz...

KAY, will this is MY rogers review. I only had it for a day, but this is what i think of it so far.

- The unit is not black. I thought it was until I saw it in the morning sunlight

- The auto dimming/brightening lcd screen is a cool feature.. but it works a lil wierd in my office when I turn it on. It keeps dimming then going back to bright.. then dimming..

- The screen looks like its gonna scratch easily since its not dipped in like the 7290, so I left that plastic cover on, just cut off the tab

- everything is super fast

- just like when I changed from the 950 to the 7280, I had to get used to the keys. Now that I switched from the 7290 to the 8700r, I have to do the same. I was VERY used to pressing shortcut keys (IE: pressing A to get to address book, and C to get to compose) It still work on this model, but there is NO compose. I have to press A to get to address book now to select.

- I keep missing the alt key because I was used to the 7290's alt key placement.. SAME goes for the CAP key.

- The Profile key on the left side of the berry is a neat feature.. and comes in handy..

- Speaker phone is GREAT.. ... ... except !!. I was driving today and decided to put it on speaker phone.. I usually clip my berries on my sun visor, so I figured since its on speak, I can just slide it in the holster.... it Hung up on me... I'll play around with it again to make sure it wasnt just sure it wasnt an error i did on my part, but im gonna have to do it on a not so important phone call =o)

- Battery life kinda sucks..... drains more when Im typing my emails and what not, but not so much when im talking. My guess is the screen drains it alot.

thats all i got for now

Mike
