Default Confused about 7100, EDGE and TMobile

Please Login to Remove!

Sorry -- I am sure this has been asked and answered.

If I want a 7100t-like phone on the TMobile network that supports edge, what phone will I buy and when will it be available?

Maybe the answer is that no such phone has been announced.

The 7130 is CDMA, and the 8700 is the full qwerty format.

I guess I am looking for a 7130t (sort of).

Feel free to flog me with "Search, you idiot"

T-Mobile does not currently have an EDGE based network available, still just GSM\GPRS.

Actually, EDGE is active. You will need the 7105t to use the EDGE network.

7105t has a better screen for daylight viewing and a few minor changes. No Edge.

Here is the T-Mobile reference to this, just for completeness:

I went to the T-mobile page http://support.t-mobile.com/knowbase...ic/tm22696.htm and noted that T-Mobile has EDGE but I couldn't find anywhere on their site that the 7105t is EDGE capable. I have a 7105t and live in the Atlanta, GA area and I've not seen an EDGE indication on the screen. Perhaps its not here yet or do I have to do anything special to get on the system.

Are you on EDGE in Orlando with your 7105t? Did you do anything to get on or did it just happen.

Thanks for the info

I've got the 7105t, and it is not EDGE compatible.

Lots of errors in this thread..

The 7105t is not EDGE compatible. GPRS only.

I have an 8700c with a T-Mobile SIM card in it and it is on an EDGE network.

Default T-Mobile does have edge - but not for phones yet

T-Mobile does have EDGE - but from the current products I have looked at, the only item that uses it is their PCMCIA wireless card for laptops - at least right now.

But according to other posts when TMO releases the 8700 late January it will also be on EDGE.

Are any 7100t - like devices rumored to be coming out with EDGE?

No rumors of that. I expect the next T-Mobile BB to be their version of the 8700.

Talking

7105t is not EDGE, EDGE is active on the T-Mobile network and it works great with my V360.

But just like Cingular, EDGE is not available on their roaming partners networks, those are still GPRS.

In speaking with a t-mobile tech person last week he made the statement: "It will run much faster when Edge is active in your area". When questioned, he said the service is being usedin other areas. I live in Houston, so obviously my area isn't active.

nicky_r, I was in Houston this past week and EDGE was active and running very nicely on my 8700c. This is confirmed by others in the Houston area.
