Default Anyone able to get their free 8700c from the launch party unlocked?

Please Login to Remove!

I tried one of the services and they claim Cingular does not have the code for my device. I am wondering since they came from RIM if Cingular even has the unlock code? My contract with tmobile is not up till Jun 2006 :( And I don't want to payy $200 to break it.

Hi Richard,
I got mine from the launch party and I tried the unlocking service on eBay and he was not able to do it (he gave me a refund). I'm trying to see if he'll try again. You couldn't pay me to become a Cingular sub so if I can't unlock it I'll sell it. TMo has been extremely good, has coverage everywhere I need, way better rates, and way better customer service (orders of magnitude better IMO).

Also, I asked my carrier (also TMo) to request an unlock and release from Cingular. Doubtful but doesn't hurt to try...

Let me know what happens. I have not asked for a refund yet. I told him to try again.

I got mine, and our government service rep said he tried to get Blackberry to give him the code--they wouldn't. I don't know if this was a deal Cingular wants (upper managment intent) or Blackberry came up with some new way to lock it down hard.

Still trying. . .tried RIM, Cingular, and TMo (and gsmps) and they all point the finger at one another. It's frustrating - I get the sense that Cingular *could* do it but won't for whatever reason. It's like b/c it doesn't fit into one of their boxes, they don't know how to handle it.

Once again folks looks like Bongo Wireless: www.bongowireless.com is your only option Voice/Data/PIN unlock.

Here's something to try:
Tell them there's dust under the screen. Exchange it with Cingular. They should be able to unlock it then.

Bongowireless cannot do the 8700 yet. Cingular does not have the codes from these free units from the launch party. Mine is going on ebay and I will order one from my company at corp discount and get it unlocked. I can't stand Cingular.

If you are interested in selling outside of Ebay, send me a PM with the price you are looking for...

Dude,
An interesting strategy. I may try it, though my worry would be that they would ask for a receipt, etc. Though I guess even if I told them it was free I might be able to get it swapped.

Anyway, various places keep trying for me and still no joy :(
