Question So since us T-Mo guys are purchasing full price...

Please Login to Remove!

What are you guys paying? The Cingular website won't let me pay full price, even if I wanted to. I haven't had time to drop by a store and ask.

Also, any chance you guys from Canada can get a good price on the Rogers unit? $549 CAD = $473 USD...but I like the black unit over the grey one.

And I guess this is a question for gsmps, but any chance the 8700r's could be unlocked as well by him?

I'm a cingular customer, and with no available upgrade in sight of a year and since I was impatient and went to a corporate store and did not search for the best price I paid $485 out the door in San Jose California. Not the best of prices, but one I'm willing to pay. I have a unlocked 7290 I'll be selling on ebay to try to re-coupe a little of what I paid but unfortunately the cost for super-high-tech tends to be a bit steep....

I am a Cingular customer, and will pay US $199 through my corporate discount program. I only paid US $100 for my 7290, but the 8700C does have more and it is very new.

Word of advice: I spent days trying to get the 8700c (because the local store does not have it, the website did not cooperate, the phone support is hand-tied by thier archaic system, the different departments apparently do not work together AT ALL, and I was an old AT&T customer simultaneously migrating to Cingular).

If you are frustrated by the process, call customer service, tell them you are cancelling, and ask them to transfer you to the SAVE TEAM. They will tell you that they can help, but they can't - they, too, will hit a systemic roadblock at some point. Tell the save team member that you want to be transferred to the CLM DEPARTMENT. Again, threaten to cancel again if necessary.

When you get to CLM (not sure what it means) finally, you will be treated like a king, you will get your phone, you may pay less than you would have otherwise, and things will happen quickly.

P.S. Ask for express shipping, and refuse to pay an activation fee.

I got a $50 discount form, but after reading it I've found that it only applies to people setting up a new account. So us prior guys don't get squat! It's actually really upsetting that they make us pay more! one would think that they would value current customers over new ones...

Logically they would discount hardware to lure new customers. Once you sign a contract, they know they've got you.

Yes, Mr. Spock, you've got a good point, but doesn't logic also dictate that keeping your current customer base happy matter almost as much a getting new customers? Current customers could still simply cancel their contract, pay the fee, and move to another carrier. It's more lucrative to keep the customers happy, and keep them paying monthly payments versus have the customers pay the cancellation fee and go to a different carrier.

Maybe I'm just a little t'ed-off 'cause I had to pay $485 when what looks like EVERYONE else paid like $200... Bah!

I sent in my $50 rebate, but the wording is fuzzy. It says you can only submit up to 5 or so rebates a year and it seems fuzzy as to whether "new service" means a new customer or a new device IMHO, but I figured I would give it a shot and I also sent in the RIM BT rebate offer as well.

Hmm... How long do you think it'll take for them to issue the rebate? Should I hold off on sending mine, or send it now, just in case?

My rebate on the 7290 took about 6 weeks in July. I believe the rebates were very specific on when you had to submit it. The RIM rebate (which only requires copies of invoice and the side panel) I think has to be submitted by the 15th. I have a thread called 8700 rebates that has links to both the forms.

No, I'm the one being a prick. Maybe I should return my 8700c and sign up for a new contract and get the discounts.
