Default how do I display enterprise email as plain text?

Please Login to Remove!

device is 8820 and email from lotus notes has always shown on device as just plain text

for some reason now all email is showing up as html and I must select menu from left side function key "Get Plain Text" which reloads the message and then a new item shows up "Get HTML"

I can't find anything that would have caused this as I have not updated software or installed anything on the device and my work email is on Outlook 2003 using Lotus Notes connector to read email in plain text format.

I have never connected the blackberry 8820 to my work machine via USB

Email Settings from (view list of messages, Options) on the 8820 show only General Options, Email Settings, Email Filters, Email reconciliation, Spell Check and none have anything to enable Plain Text email vs HTML email.

At home blackberry desktop 5.0.1 was installed on my laptop and while I just installed it for the first time 2 days ago (have had just USB cable to recharge battery) I don't think it made my email to display as HTML as there are no setting for such action. I did not install Roxio or any media manager and I don't have Lotus Notes on my laptop so I can only do backup and restore but not read email on laptop from the 8820.

I can not update software as that would disable the enterprise email settings and it would have to be reenabled by the corporate admin (too long and difficult a process to go through)

So, the question is, how to I enable just plain text and make that default for reading new email ?

Go to message folder > menu > options > email settings > enable HTML email ... No > repeat for other addresses as desired

Viewing Inbox Messages, I select Left side context Menu Options immadiately under View Saved Messages

Message Options shows subcategories, General Options, Email Settings, Email Filters, Email reconciliation, Spell Check

I select Email Settings and it has Send Email to handheld, Save Copy in Sent Folder, Use Auto Signature, Use Out of Office Reply

Which one of these enables Plain Text ? No such item found.

I don't know what "goto Message folder" means as Enterprise Email automatically has the Lotus Notes folders from Domino server and I have nothing to do in blackberry as everything is "INBOX" based on Lotus Notes.

So I assume that means me viewing my Inbox list of messages where I have the submenu Options by pressing the left side button next to trackball.

No setting for plain text found anywhere.

I didn't consider the fact that you are on BES. You see different than what I see. I'm not familiar with BES.

By message folder, I mean the main message folder. Open the main message app and then open menu and select options. If you drill down in all the options, do you see anything that allows you to disable HTML email, or set text as default?

View Folder
(shows me all my folders, including Inbox and all subfolders under Inbox, these are all Lotus Notes folders from Domino)

I select "Select Folder"

All my Inbox messages display

I click on left side button next to trackball and select Options

I see General Options, Email Settings, Email Filters, Email Reconciliation, Spell Check

None of these options has anything with "Plain text" or "HTML"

You probably realize now that your question is more BES related and not an 88XX question. Maybe a BES admin type will see your post and reply. In the meantime, is contacting your BES or IT support and option for you?

impossible as that would mean getting a hold of someone in India, so as I mentioned in the original post, would not even dare to install the latest 8820 software update as that would likely disable enterprise email and it would require all new activation (a task I would not look forward to requesting as that could take months..)

if someone has upgraded software without losing their enterprise email security settings, please post

perhaps the new software would have this "plain text" option, dont know

Mail, Options, Email Settings, Enable HTML Email (Yes, No)

I use BES with Lotus Notes and Blackberry 8820 running 4.2

My Tools, Options shows

Blackberry 8820, v4.5.0.110 (Platform 2.7.0.90)
WLAN version 2.3.0.79

I don't have a menu selection from home screen called "MAIL", just messages
and when in "Messages" I can access Options from left side button, Messages options, Email Settings

Email settings has Save Email To Handheld, Save Copy in Sent Folder, Use Auto Signature, Use Out of Office Reply

that is it, no plain text, no html item found

Total, possibly ignorant speculation on my part, but is it possible that you do not have the option because of IT policy?

It is because of thoughts like that I suggested talking to your BES admin, but I appreciate your predicament.
