Default Looks like my bluetooth radio really was defective

Please Login to Remove!

My bluetooth connection with my Acura RL kept disconnecting. Tried everything to figure out was wrong. Exchanged it for another 8700 today. Works perfectly so far. For those of you having bluetooth headaches, it looks like some of you may have defective bluetooth radios.

Whoa- thanks for the information. I know a few people here will be glad to hear that and quit banging their head on the wall.

We're not the beta test group, are we?

Hm. My Plantronics Discovery keeps disconnecting.....maybe it is the 8700 and not the headset?

How did you cut through the BS of all the level 1 people and cut to the chase? I'd like to exchange mine also and see if that fixes things.

Mne will work fine for a while, then next time...not. I have to hard reset the 8700 to get it back to working.

I'd LOVE to just swap out at a local Cingular store.

DJJeffT: I found a nice guy in the store. I explained the situation. We went out to the car with a new 8700. It worked fine, and he just exchanged it. Simple as that.

I have only done a little testing and all seems OK. I need to make sure over the next day or two that the problem doesn't recur. What's interesting is that this 8700 doesn't feel quite like the one I returned. The rollerwheel seems more solid and the battery cover is easier to remove.

Whole morning testing bluetooth. No disconnects. My first 8700 was a defective dud. The replacement is just fine.

btw the rolling wheel always feels solid until you use it for a few days. My launch party unit does not have the interlace scan lines the one I got from the Cingular store. These things have qulity control issues up there with the Treo.

Have the same issue myself; dropping in the car and on my Plantronics Explorer M320. If I wear the headset on the opposite side of my body from the holster, lots of static and breakup...at 3" away, it works fine...New one on way to fix problem now...

Ok, I am still tryng to run this all down.

I noticed that the theme I had been using 'BB Insight-List' doesnt have a bluetooth status indicator near the the top of the screen. Nor does the 'BB Insight-Icon' theme.

The other three themes have it, so I have temporarily changed to 'BB Dimension-List' for a while.

Anyone notice this?????

You mean the handset and not the headset? How did you determine which is dropping the call?

Gadgetman...

Any update on your new Handheld? All well and good now?

I have my new device on the way. Should be here by tomorrow. I couldn't find a corporate store in the Tampa area that had an 8700 in stock, so I had to settle for them sending me a new one. No hassle what so ever, just had to pay the extra $15 to have it here in 1-2 days (I guess I am not a patient person when it comes to my gadgets). The regular delivery was 7-10 days and that was just not acceptable.

The replacement works perfectly. Not a single bluetooth disconnect over the past five days since I got the replacement. I can't believe how much time I spent trying to get the defective unit to work.

Got my replacement and paired it with my LR3. All seemed to go well.

I was on my way to get my son at soccer. Got out to get him and upon re-entering the car, the 8700 ASKED to pair with the LR3 and I clicked yes.

Did a quick call to voice mail, and the speakers never muted. UGH.

What I am finding out over the past 24 hours since I got my new device is that if I set TRUSTED to ASK or YES, I get a 50/50 shot. If I set it to NO, and when I enter the car do a MANUAL CONNECT, it works 100% of the time.

I GUESS that is my 'fix/work around' for now.

I have tried mt 7100t (before I sold it) and my wifes Pink RAZR phone and they both worked flawlessly.

HAS to be a minor bug in the OS...don't ya think?

Who can I report this to and how???

Thanks all for your insight and advice.

Jeff

But it's better than before, right? You have established that the first unit was defective, correct?

Honestly, no.

I never got to the point where I changed it to NO permanently.

Tried YES, then ASK, but never NO.
