Since I started this thread, I feel I should note that, now that I received and am using my replacement BB, I LOVE IT. Aside from one dust speck under the screen (there when it arrived and a real challenge to my anal-retentive nature
), my unit is well-built and a major advance over my BB7290 in terms of functionality and general "niceties."
The keys on my 8700 feel stiff, as others have described, but not in any sort of flawed way. I recall my 7290 feeling that way when new, too, but the keys eventually "softened" (or I just got use to 'em). I love the real glass screen v. the old cheesy plastic one on the 7290, and the fact that it is flush to the unit rather than recessed. The two user-definable keys, which I thought I'd find "nice," have proven extremely handy and I find myself using them constantly. Otherwise, my keys aren't loose, my battery door fits perfectly, and this 8700 performs exactly as I expect it to.
My two cents: don't be put off by the descriptions in this thread of problems. If you want one, get it! If you need to screw around afterward, as I had to, summon your patience but I think it's worth it.
