It's getting to the point where I can't use my 7290 as a phone anymore, because every other call my voice drops out and the other person can't hear me! I am getting really infuriated at this. I know other people have been having this problem... has anyone gotten any kind of satisfactory response or explanation?

Our Cingular rep told me this morning that RIM is working on the problem currently. Doesn't sound like it is all 7290 users though.

Just to be clear on this, I had this problem on my first 7290, exchanged it for a new one, and still have the same problem.

I had a problem with my 7290 not having a good signal in my home. To be honest, I have never really had a good signal at home until someone other than Cingular put up a tower 2 miles down the road. I think it must be an AT&T tower. When that happened my Nokia started showing "Cingular Extend" with a very high signal strength. My 7290, however, didn't. If I drove toward the new tower the sig strength on the 7290 went to zero.

I called cust svc about it, and they initially blamed RIM and said they were working on it. I called back a few days later and pressed for a fix. I finally talked the guy into "re-registering" my phone. He apparently sent something to it and told me to restart it. Since then, I have had a reasonable signal here. It's still not as strong as the Nokia, but it right now has two bars in an area where it would have had no service.

Default My new 7290 is dropping also

I just got my first Blackberry (7290) with Cingular and I have only made approx. 10 calls and at least 7 have dropped. My local store (Portsmouth, NH) did seem to know anything about it and suggested "resetting" the phone by taking the battery out and putting it back in. Of course this didn't help. I will be getting in touch with Cingular on Monday after seeing others having this same problem. Thanks

Default No problems here...

Down here in Atlanta (How the hell did I get here from Boston?). Been using 7290 for over a month and 4000 minutes without any dropped calls. Rock solid here.

Default Dropped call or people can't hear you?

I did notice a similar problem with the 7520. There was a small peice of rubber that covered the microphone. Once I removed it, the problem with people being able to hear was gone. Check the mic and make sure there is nothing covering it.

Not a mic problem here. Calls are fine for a minute a two then the other person suddenly can't hear me at all.

My girlfriend hd the same problem. It's going back to Cingular this week as she knows the store manager and he said he'd replace it for free. I dunno if it's a cingular issue or a problem with the device...probably a bit of both. Do you know anyone else in your area that is having the same issues?

I had the same problem and it was extremely frustrating. Every call would do this. I would talk for like 30 seconds and then they wouldnt hear me any more.

I went to the cingular store, and told the guy. He suggested "turning the radio on and off twice a day" which I said was BS and did nothing, because I use auto off every night.

Then he said.. well we have had a lot of people have this issue even with other phones. He said they have just instituted all new SIM cards after the merger. I got mine just before. He took the sim card out and got a new one and registered it there. Ever since then, IT WORKS FINE! Havent had any one say I dropped out, now I had one dropped call, but it was a normal dropped call, not the stupid thing where they cant hear me any more.

So if youve had your phone since Nov or early Dec you might want to check into this. I was having the problem all the time and now its fixed.

Interesting. Someone else on the board had his unit swapped & his new one doesn\'t exhibit this behavior. I\'m using my 7290 on T-Mobile, but I get the same audio drop-outs. I\'ve also tried the full power-off every night but that hasn\'t resolved it. I\'ve upgraded my firmware to the HK 4.0 version & haven\'t experienced the audio drop in a while, but it may just be coincidence. I\'ll try some testing over the next few days & post the results.

Default No Problems on ATTWS in NYC

I had heard terrible things about ATTWS GSM service in NYC (was TDMA), but that BB's seemed to have had the least problems. I've had my 7290 for a month now with even better coverage, reception, and sound quality (incoming and outgoing) than my old TDMA Nokia.

It is 64k. It is the one that is Half Orange and White and says 64k Smartchip on it.

I was having similar problems on a few 7290 models. I reloaded just the phone application and they seem to work fine afterwards.

FYI, for anyone who wants to upgrade their 32k SIM card to the new 64k one, I went to the Cingular store and asked to do this, and they said it would cost $24.99 for the new SIM card unless I called customer service and they noted on my account that I should be allowed a free upgrade. I called customer service from the store and they approved the free upgrade right away. Am trying new card now, will report back on if it helps the calls-dropping-out problem.

Default Cingular BB 7290 problems

I have experienced the same problems for the last two weeks. After 30 to 45 seconds on a call, the other caller can't hear my voice, although I can hear them fine. It doesn't seem to be a microphone problem, since I have the problem while using my Bluetooth headset.

Interestly, it seems to happen when talking to other mobile phones only. Not absolutely sure, but since I started having the problem, it seems to be the case.

I check my SIM and it is a 32K, I would be interested to know if changing it would help.

Thanks all!

Yes, be sure to post if the 64k SIM changes anything.
I have an old 32k SIM in mine, and it is fine, so not sure that is the issue.
