Default 7230 Emergency call only

Please Login to Remove!

I have avoided cell phones entirely until got one this post summer - Fido. Partly as phone, partly since I needed a PDA and Palm no longer makes the one I had. The Fido phone's memory for appointments etc filled up, and isn't expandable. So I thought an old BlackBerry would give me the PDA features and the phone. I bought a 7230, unlocked.

The BlackBerry with the Fido SIM allows only emergency phone calls. Cannot dial out or receive phone calls. Does receive text messages.

The 7230 tools menu shows it is indeed unlocked.

The 7230 does list Fido as its network. Fido for its part claims that its service should be working, since the SIM works on the phone they originally provided.

BlackBerry says the phone hasn't been activated to Fido (although since I'm not subscribing to the BlackBerry Internet services through Fido, they wouldn't know anyway).

Have I bought a paperweight, or is there some way to get this working as a phone and PDA?

Any help is appreciated.

#1, the 7230 is a VERY old model, no longer supported by RIM.

#2, the 7230 is a CDMA device. If I recall correctly Fido is a GSM network.

So...the 7230 BlackBerry won't work on Fido.

If I am wrong or right, someone please correct or corroborate.

The Emergency Calls Only is an IT Policy on the device.

You will need to remove that by following these steps:

The 7230 is actually a GSM device.
