Default 7290 - enterprise activation

Please Login to Remove!

Hello, I am new to blackberry and I have just purchased a second hand 7290 with the intention to be able to use my personal email on the phone

I have transferred my sim card, Vodafone to the 7290 and it works fine as a phone and there is a gprs symbol connected in top right hand.

There is though a symbol with 'Enterprise Activation' do I need to complete this before I can use email ? If so how would I do this as I am not using this with business email, I just want to access my POP account.

Any help appreciated.

Enterprise Activation is indeed only for those who want to get their e-mail from a corporate "BES" - BlackBerry Enterprise Server - and not a personal POP3 account.

You are going to have to register the BlackBerry using Vodafone's BIS (BlackBerry Internet Service) account. I do not know the web URL for their site.

Do you have BlackBerry Data Plan on your account? You must have this plan (add-on) included to get BlackBerry data and e-mail. Since your phone says gprs and not GPRS, I think you need to have the plan added.

Hi, thanks for the reply...

I do not have Blackberry Data Plan added on to my monthly tarrif currently, do I that even to just recieve my person POP mail... if that is the case what is the benefit of having a Blackberry is I need to pay more (I presume) for the Blackberry Data Plan when isn't there other phones with qwerty keyboards etc that just would connect via std GPRS?

I presume as well that without the Blackberry data plan I cannot access the web on the 7290 phone like I do on my existing Nokia phone?

For email and other RIM based services using the BB, such as BBM, BB Browser, etc. you MUST have a BB data plan. Nothing else will work.

As for other devices, most that I know of would require some sort of data plan to connect you to the data network for email and browsing. Otherwise you will be paying an exorbitant amount in excess data charges.

As for the benefits to you, you are the only one that can answer that one.

You can drop any other data plan you might be carrying, using only the BlackBerry data plan. A lot of folks mistakenly carry a regular data plan along with the BlackBerry one. Total waste as long as your using a BB.
