Picked up an Altell WE 8830 and I'm attempting to use it. Error code 507 is showing and I'm downloading the desktop software to start trying to establish service on it. I'm a newbie so any help is appreciated. I've only been reading the forum for a few days and I'm picking up bits and pieces. A search of the 507 code error pointed me in the general direction. I also spoke w/ Verizon to make sure that we can use the phone and we can.
I figured wth, $40 I'll give it a spin. My wife wants to try a BB so maybe this will get her started. I'm not dropping a couple of jacksons on a new BB.

How about it? Give it a go or punt?

My first task is to put the OS back on and hopefully the desktop software will allow me to do just that.

First thing to try is always a battery pull. ANY wonky behavior should be met by a 30-second battery pull.

Normally, 507 means the OS is corrupt of missing and needs to be re-installed. Honestly, a battery pull probably won't help, but it's worth a try anytime. You can download the latest OS version from the sticky at the top of the 8800 forum, but be sure to choose the one specifically for the 8830.

Moved to the appropriate section.

Error 507 means you need to reload the OS.

Go to the yellow sticky at the top of this section (8800) and find the thread for the 8830. The OS is device specific, meaning you must have an 8830 OS for your device. The latest release is 4.5. There is no 5.0 for the 8800 series.

Once you find the correct thread and OS, there are instructions on how to install. Follow them exactly and be patient. It can take an hour or more for the update.

Tried the battery pull as one of the first options. No luck there. I'll dig into the FAQs tomorrow and see what's what. Thanks

Deleted the vendor file and started the app loader and it says there is a "device password" ??? I don't have a clue about what that could be.....

after 10/10 tries it wiped and scrubbed........

Updating as we speak. Do I really need the desktop software? It's a huge file and it's failed twice to download.

Booyah!! It loaded....awesome! Can I now go online and change the service to this phone? I have a smart phone plan is place already.
