I have an 8830 World Edition running OS v4.5.0.186 and my question is: How do I turn off the password lock feature on this phone. When I go into the general settings the password field says enabled with a small red padlock icon beside it and I cannot disable it. I find it a pain in the butt to have to have to constantly type a password most every time I pick up the phone to be able to use it.

Please also advise if I should be running a more up to date OS than the one I am running now and if so what one. Will a newer one slow the phone down?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Is the device on BES? If so, you need to speak to the BES Admin before you do anything. Trying to circumvent a company policy, such as removing the password protection, can be grounds for termination.

You either have an IT policy forcing use of password or you have an encrypted media card.

First of all, look at the 88xx thread... there is a sticky at the top of each device forum with information about the latest release of the OS... check there to see if you are running the latest... if not, you can use the links and info the sticky thread to get and install a newer OS.

With regard to the password issue, are you on a BES account? It sounds like there is a reason that you cannot delete the password - perhaps an IT policy pushed down by your employer's BES?

Thanks everyone for your help. This unit was a hand me down from a former employee of Bell. He no longer works for them nor do I. It is now hooked up under a MTS Mobility network private account of mine. There would be no employer issues in disabling it if it is possible. Any help in disabling it would be much appreciated.
