Default This is Strange....

Please Login to Remove!

Cingular/BIS/4.1.0.206_Rogers

(did this on the Cingular build as well)

I have my middle button configured to open the Internet Browser. I have set my home page to http://www.google.com/

Everytime I hit the button it goes to google alright....google.ca (canada)

Even if I use 'Go To' and type in www.google.com it goes to the ca site!!

I have the browser setup to emulate IE. I have tried the others with the same result.

Anyone else seen this....?

No big deal...just strange.

Thanks in advance.

Had the same thing with my 7289 when i typed in Google on th ebrowser. I recall someone saying that because RIM is a Canadian company they have it set up so it defaluts to Google's Canadian site-- really more than a default, as it is nearly impossible to get to the US Google site. I think some sort of national pride or perhaps a deal with Google.

I can't tell My Cingular Home page is set to google.com, it just says Google at the top. I guess I don't know what difference it makes, I mean it is "google", unless you got that Canadian version where they speak french, then it might matter, I can't type french ;)

As far as I know, this is because the traffic is going through RIM's servers in Canada before heading out to Google.
To get around it, go to http://www.google.com/ncr (no country redirect). That'll keep you at the actual google.com site.

This is technology within Google that looks at your source IP and checks the CIDR to which it belongs and then appropriately redirects it to the CA site. For subsequent visits, a cookie deals with that. You will notice the same behavior if you open a browser on your computer.

I am in MA and when I go to Google it goes to Google's US site.

Good call. Worked perfectly.

Thanks! (I promise not to say anything bad about Canadians....after all, they gave us the BB!!)

happened to me too--go to www.google.com/xhtml to go directly and set this as your homepage, then click the "Mobile Web" option on bottom to do searches on your mobile device
(or go to mobile.google.com and navigate from there)
