Default Why isn't Suretype "smarter"?

Please Login to Remove!

When I type "email" I get "emaul"
When I type "tomorrow" I get "tomoroeq"
When I type "next" I get "werj"

I'm new to this but shouldn't Suretype be able to recognize common words and make the necessary adjustments? And I thought it was supposed to learn over time based on corrections I make but I just typed "email" again and got the same result. I know I can edit Autotext but I don't think that I should have to.

when you type
"email"
and get
"emaul"
did you hit "del" twice and then "il" again?
After doing that the first time my 7105t remembered email and I don't get emaul anymore.

You may also take a look under Settings->Custom Wordlist and Settings->Auto Text. I found that many non-dictionary words were automatically saved there. That enables the device to remember wierd words you may use like "kakadoodie." That feature is great for 'real' words... but not for mistypings. Delete the mistypings.

that was almost funny....I had all the same problems everyone else did when I first got my 7100i...now there is only one word it messes up on it changes "to" to "yo". it takes a little time correcting the words it messes up on so that it learns them.

give it a little bit of time...for the first two weeks I was ready to throw my phone out the window now I type faster on my 7100i than I ever did on my 7520

I've gotten it to "learn" best if you correct it with the scroll wheel while typing in the word. If you complete the word, then notice it's wrong, delete the mistype and retype it correctly then normaly the second time it comes out correct, but the device doesn't seem to "learn" the correction. I'm assuming since you hit del that the system thinks you made a mistake typing; instead of the blackberry making the mistake when you correct it while still typing the word.

It sounds like you have multi tap on and not SureType, seems like its only typing the first word of the key.

some words get still messed up, but thats because of my dyslexic speed typing, but when I type and think it all works well, I love suretype.

I'm doing OK now with SureType but it would be nice if it would predict the word you are typing. That could save many keystrokes and make up for the occasional glitches.

I've been using Sure Type for well over a year and think it's great. Yes, there are\see a couple of words that it consistently has trouble with, but for the most part, it is pretty damn smart! I too find that using the scroll wheel to select words "teaches" Sure Type and then don't have too many problems after that.

The funny thing is that if you get "are" instead of "see" (or vice versa) and miss it before you hit send, it can totally throw the message out of context if the recipient is not BB\SureType savvy...

I had a non-native english speaker ask me why I always use "us" instead of "is". I guess I should proofread more.....

Some common words use the same keystrokes, like being and being. Make it a habit to check the wordlist bar BEFORE you press the space key. Once you press the space key the software enters it into your custom wordlist and it will keep coming up as a possible valid word. After a few days you'll notice that suretype will default to words it knows. The secret is in NOT using the space key until you have checked the screen.

except that pretty much defeats the purpose of using a predictive text feature.

it is easier to check the screen just before "SEND" and keep in mind which words are commonly swapped. SureType will learn, as many have stated above, but there are some words that it constantly misses.

This pretty much sums up what I wanted to say.. LoL I also have the same problem with the "to" to "yo" mistake.. But other than that give it time and it will learn.. When I first bought the BB all my friends were like why do you keep typing yo instead of to? Now they all know I type too fast to correct it and they know that its the BB's doing..
