Question 8700 bluetooth issue

Please Login to Remove!

Hey there,
Found something interesting thought I would see if anyone had any idea. I am a previous 7290 user and now have an 8700c. I paired my H700 to the device, and set it trusted, now the first time after pairing it works fine. Here comes the problem, once I close the boom, to turn the headset off, when I go to use it again, the blackberry won't connect. On my 7290 it would reconnect just fine, now with this one, nothing. It just sits there and says waiting for headset h700. I thought maybe it was the headset, so I tried another, no luck, and I even tried an HS850, same issue.

The other is with the H700 connected, after repairing again, the device will just drop the connection all together. With the HS850 I didn't notice this happening. Any thoughts?

For gigles, download and try the Rogers firmware. While I haven't tested the Motorola headsets on the 8700, I have not had that issue with several other headsets.

Another note on using the h700 w/the 8700c. While paired and with the mic boom open, if I just ever so lightly touch the mic boom, the 8700 loses connection with the headset. I'm exchanging my headset today in hopes that that will correct it. Maybe this has been the source of the porblems I've been having all along with the h700...just didn't know that was happening until now.

I will give that try today. My 8700C is unlocked so I can use it on T-Mobile, loading up the Rogers firmware won't affect any of that will it?
Thanks

It shouldn't have any effect. I have been using the Rogers version on Cingular's network without any problems.

Unhappy

On a different 8700 bluetooth issue, it seems that RIM will only allow you to synch your phone with a PC running WinXP SP2:

http://www.blackberry.com/knowledgec...7250&vernum=11

Unfortunately, I have Win2K running on my laptop.
My phone "sees" my laptop over BT, and vice-versa, the problem is that "Enable Bluetooth Support" is greyed out in the BB Device Manager.

Does anybody know a workaround for this, other than installing WinXP SP2?

Hey BarJohn or anyone else. I downloaded the Rogers Version, but it won't let me install it on the Cingular BB. Any other ideas?

Gotta delete your vendor.xml file.

Seek and ye shall find.

Justin.culp and barjohn, I took your advice and so far, it seems to be working, must be a bug within the Cingular software. I will have to continue to play with it and see what happens

Continue on with the update. I tried the Rogers software and the headsets still won't reconnect without turning off the bluetooth on the device, and then turning it back on and manually connecting it to the headset. Any other thoughts??

I have not done a firmware update on a BB yet, are there any issues associated with doing it...will I need to re-do an enterprise activation? Will it wipe my handheld data?

Thanks;

I had no issues with my upgrade. You will be prompted to backup your BB during the upgrade process. It preserved all of my settings, email, OTA apps, mp3 ringtones, etc...

Have not noticed any major changes in fuction. There are tiny cosmetic changes, the alert miniicons for voicemail, noservice, new browser EDGE indicator etc have changed.

I exchanged my h700 and now it and my 8700c seem to be playing perfectly together. They no longer disconnect spontaneously, the h700 now picks up calls much quicker, and closing/reopening the boom mic re-establishes the connection almost immediately. If things remain this way, I'll have the perfect setup. (finger crossed)

Glad that its working good, mine is still having issues, I have tried 3 different headsets, either I keep getting bad ones or mine maybe has an issue with the bluetooth module. Though the way its acting seems more software than hardware.

If you have tried three different headsets you really are down to exchanging the handset. Occasionally there have been units that appear to have a weak Bluetooth radio.

Haha......John I dont suppose you are willing to lend out one of your headsets from your stockpile so I can test another one to make sure its not my phone!

Sure, if you want to pay round trip UPS shipping and insurance costs. I might point out that it may exceed the value of the headset.

Well after exchanging blackberries I think I am in business so far its working pretty good with the headsets. No apparent problems. Seems to be working pretty good. I actually have something good to say about Cingular also. I went in and exchanged my blackberry 8700c today and then called Cingular International Customer Care to try and get them to expidite the unlock code process, and the rep gave it to me over the phone! So I am quite happy now, thanks for the info.
