Funny, this happened to me week before last.

1) Try removing the battery *while the phone is looking for a network.* This was said (by the exceptionally good level-2 Blackberry tech I talked to at TMO) to sometimes successfully reset the radio (which is your problem).

2) If that doesn't work, I hope your handset is under warranty. TMO will replace the handset for this problem. Just call customer care, sit through a brain-dead troubleshooting process that won't work, wait on hold half an hour to get sent to somebody on the Blackberry team, go through the same pointless exercise with them (at least they're very smart and affable), and they'll eventually agree to send you a new handset.

I had that happen last night. Removing the battery while the unit was on worked like a charm.

I have this happen almost every time I go in and out of the coverage area. Yes, pulling the battery, etc. usually fixes it, but when you have to do this 10-12 times a day, often while driving, it is a real pain.

I did speak to a Blackberry tech a few months ago, but he insisted I must call him on a landline so we could "recreate" the problem. Obviously that can't be done, since it is an issue of travelling in and out of service area. He would not listen and after about 20 minutes of this exchange, I drove out of the service area and lost him.

My phone was out of warrantly just over 2 months ago, so I don't think they will replace it anyway. I should have reported it sooner.

I have this happen occasionally as well. I've had fewer problems since installation of 4.0.2.49 handheld software. Generally, if I encounter a problem all I need do is turn the wireless radio off then on again. If that doesn't do it then I remove the battery. Again, this problem is pretty rare anymore for me since loading the latest OS.

thnx for all the suggestions and stuff guys but imma start with Tadly first:

Tadly: yeah i would try that if it happens again but it aint easy yanking ya battery out every so often the blackberry 7100 also has a very some what cheap battery covering

Captain: first off i tried yanking the battery out couple times and nothing every really helped but the thing is the blackberry was given to me as a gift last year and unfortunately its warrantee is up

AlwaysOn607: well wenever this problem happens i jus wipe the handheld clean wid this java software i got from a guy on here and then it helps but soon as i turn the handheld off then back on its jus keeps searching so i cant ever take it off cause wont be pretty rushing for work one morning and my blackberry cant work

John Clark: hmm thats funny cause i have that same version of 4.0 and its jus been a headache do u think the 4.1 upgrade wud be coming out anytime soon ?
