Posted in T-Mobile, 8700g by Robb Dunewood on January 24th, 2006
T-Mobile UK and Research in Motion today introduced the BlackBerry 8700g to the UK. The next-gen BlackBerry 8700g will be available throughout the UK in early February.
The BlackBerry 8700g features a bright, high resolution, landscape QVGA (320240) LCD display that supports more than 65,000 colors to deliver vivid graphics. The screen offers excellent indoor and outdoor readability by featuring an intelligent light sensing technology that automatically adjusts both the LCD and keyboard lighting to provide an optimized view in outdoor, indoor and dark environments. The device also features Bluetooth(R) support for hands-free use with headsets and car kits, as well as a speakerphone.

If T-Mo is introducing this in the UK, why would they not also roll out in the US at the same time?

The 8700g from T-Mobile is blue and not black.

Could be any number of reasons, most likely due to the 90 exclusive contract with Cingular and any last minute software issues. Just elax, its on its was.

As far as the color goes, if you say its blue than I gat to believe you, I dont speak German...

Keep in mind that T Mobile is MUCH larger overseas then here, they almost are seperate entaties of each other kinda like Verizon and Vodafone are. They may schedule there release dates much differently. Also with T Mo getting the MDA here, while T Mo Europe had it for a while now.

The confusion over color may be due to the fact that the black looking color is actually a deep dark midnight blue, at least according to some other posts here. I've never seen one, but that's what I hear, er . . . read.

In any case, this is a good sign.

can someone confirm whether the frame around the screen is the real one or this pic is also one of the originals. Because the 8700C does not have think kind of look and feel. Also if you see the send and end key are more finished that on the 8700C release.

That looks nice. I can't wait. The one thing I haven't seem mentioned is EDGE support. Does anyone know if EDGE will be supported in the US when the launch comes?

Yes, it should be edge supported, that is my understanding anyway, and I have been wrong before.

As far as looks go, keep in mind this is the UK version and sometimes units look different stateside. I'm not saying it will look different, however there is always a possibility of some suttle changes.

On another point, we have all been waiting for the 8700 from T-Mobile for a while now. With regards to the look, would it really hinder your purchase. For me no, I still think its a nice looking unit. I do so like the 7290, but I wouldn't throw this out of bed, so to speak.

EDGE works great on the US T-Mobile network. Not working in the UK (GPRS only) since they don't have EDGE rolled out!

NJBB,
I was referring in the US not the UK. I should have been more specific.

OK - EDGE works great in the US on my 8700c, unlocked and running on T-Mobile. I've been using it on T-Mobile since the 3rd day I've had it, and in only switched over to GPRS once - in the mountains - and has been flawless on EDGE in the US ever since.
