Default Dismal Data Performance

Please Login to Remove!

Our company recently upgraded from 7290s to 8700c's. We have good EDGE coverage, but I really believe data throughput is unchanged from GPRS. The 7290 would download data more slowly, but more consistently. The 8700 will go long periods without any data downloading, have a burst of quick data, then go "idle" for a while. For instance, on the 8700c, loading groups.yahoo.com takes about 30 seconds. It requests for 11 seconds, then it takes about 20 seconds to download 29k of data. This is one of its better performances. Is anyone else getting this level of performance?

I had a 7290 and now have an 8700. The data performance is much better on the 8700 based on my experience. I have actually tried downloading the same webpages on both devices at the same time and the 8700 completes the task faster every time.

Same here. No comparison. Remeber there are two parts to the equation. If the server you are accessing is slow, no matter how fast your connection and device the download will be slow while you wait for the server to give you a time slot.
