Actually, I'm giving the phone to someone else....is there an easy way to completely reset the phone back to how it would have arrived to me new?

Settings/Options Security. Click the Wheel and select "Erase Handheld".

Other way is to set a password and enter it incorrectly 10 times. Follow the prompts.
