I have had a treo now for years and recently sold my 650 on ebay at my husbands insistence because he's had enough of calls cutting out from me when I used it to call him. So, I sold it and thought I could live with a regular phone. I've been having withdrawals and knew I have to have another smart phone. I have been looking at the 8700c, nokia 6682, and hoping for the newest treo with hopes of it being more stable. I went into the cingular store yesterday and had pretty much made up my mind to get the 8700c until I realized that I would have to get an expensive plan to go with it. I've been using my treo with cingulars unlimited media net plan for $19.99. I asked them if I could do this with a blackberry and they told me that I would not be able to use email if I did this. Is this true? With my treo, I set up versamail and used my ISP's incoming mail settings and used cingulars cwmx.com for my outgoing settings and its always worked for me. Could anyone verify that I could set up a blackberry like this? I ended up letting the sales person convince me that I should try another treo. I did, and $400 later now, I can't use it. Its worse than the last one. My callers can't hear me at all now. I can hear them. I think the speaker is out in a brand new phone already. It worked yesterday in the store, but started going out just about as soon as I left. At first the call started cutting out and then the caller could not hear me at all. Thats where I stand now. Its useless and I will be bringing it back. I just would love to know whether its possible for me to use the same plan as I have now with the treo and whethere I will be able to get my email without the expensice blackberry plan. Someone please help.

No Blackberry data plan means that you can call, SMS, and sync via cable. That's it. No email, no web browsing, no other internet-enabled apps.

You should have learned your lesson from being a long time Treo user - they suck! Regardless, as with most reliable things in life, you get what you pay for. If you want excellent, reliable email, web browsing, and phone reception then bite the bullet and get the 8700.

BTW - if your contract happens to be recently expired, then get one from Amazon for free with new 2 year agreement...

Default Free?

I will have to check this out at amazon. If I could get it for free, then it might/would be worth the expensive plan for blackberry. If it would only work like I had my treo set up with the media net. I have had it with my treo's. Why can't they make one that works. Don't get me wrong, when it works, its a great device. But, lookout when it doesn't. It can be frustratingly unreliable. My contract is up, and I'm due for an upgrade, but I am the account holder for 3 other phones on a family talk plan. All of their contracts vary in terms of time left. Do you think that I can do new service plan through amazon like this? I've looked at the "deals" that you can get on various sites, but its always for a new subscriber, not a current subscriber wanting to upgrade or extend a contract. Please advise if you know how to do this.

If your contract is up, then you should be able to get the new user price. Matbe you have to get a whole new subscription, with a new phone number, I'm not sure. But the Amazon deal is with a mail in rebate, but several in here have done it and had good results.
