| A little more info please. What do you mean "your internet doesn't work, but medianet does" I dont understand, are you missing your icon, are you getting errors? How much are you paying per month for data? (If its 20$ you are paying too little and probably only have WAP enabled on your phone, hence the medianet working, it costs 45$ a month for BB data) Also, it may not be enabled, go ahead and explain a little more whats going on, Ill check back here. | | Offline

| thanks for the reply!
well i just exchanged my phone for a new blackberry 8700c. i re-registered my phone (automatically) and then signed up for "individual email activitation" successfully...
but now, the MEDia Net is available, but no BB Browser Icon (it's not showing). I have the $44.99 BB Data Plan and my radio says "EDGE."
how can i get my BB Browser back??
I was able to instally Google Local Mobile (1.1 ver) via Media Net (cingular). I started the app and it said there's no "Network Unavailable"
Thanks for the help! i really appreciate it! | | Offline

Thanks for the help! i really appreciate it! | Go to Settings>Options>Advanced Options>Host Routing Tables>(click trackwheel) and Register Now. If that doesnt get you the "Internet Browser" Icon, then call Cingular and let them know you dont have the icon, its a carrier thing. | | Offline

Just to let you (and everyone) know, I'd like to become a prominent face on these forums, I work with these things all day, and anything I can answer here to keep you from calling us (not because we dont like you, it's so that we can reduce costs) is something Im happy to assist with. Im not allowed to work off the clock, but I can definately impart my knowledge here to assist as best I can. | | Offline

| No.
But by default, most phone plans come with it defaulted as Pay Per use, which is why people see those massive data charges for accessing 3rd party apps. You can only get rid of it if you specificly ask it to be blocked (For example, when parents get a family plan and block the internet on the kids' phones.)

| So how do you explain all these people who call in and reach data support reps. who tell them they are suposed to have it?
How do you explain these people that say the reps. tell them the wap.cingular APN is included as part of the "new" Blackberry plan or as part of a Data Connect feature which they add on to their account?
How do you explain people who have the WIX (Wireless Internet Pay Per Use) feature (which allows them access to the wap.cingular APN) added to their account but never get billed per kb for usage?
How many data support reps. does Cingular have?
Does every one have a different answer for this? | | Offline

| There are 300+ something in the data support (Product Managment) group. I'm one of them.
Not to brag, But I'm one of the best, no joke. Unfortunately, they've been hiring alot lately, and the new classes are not...up to par, if you know what I mean.
WIX people who dont get billed, are not using data on the wap network. And not using 3rd party software.
You are NOT supposed to have WAP for a very simple reason, We dont support anything but the functionality of the Blackberry, Push emails with a supported email redirection method (BIS, Redirector, BES) and Browsing on one of the supported browsers (BB Browser, Blackberry Internet Browser, Cingular Browser). Third party applications are -not- supported. I had a call just yesterday with someone using Verichat all the time, 147$ overage charge. It was as if he'd used his built in AIM client on some crappy LG phone, would have been the same thing.
NO Blackberry plan comes with wap, What WILL come with wap AND isp.cingular APN's will be the new plan hopefully released soon (end of Q1) will be the Blackberry Tethering plan, it will allow customers to use Blackberries as modems and provide software for it, for 20+ extra a month. Not to bad considering the tethering charges people are seeing now. (not to mention the ISP apn will allow for a public connection as opposed to the wap's private -and slower- connection) | | Offline

There are tons of people using third party apps (Verichat, BB Weather etc.) relying on the wap.cingular APN, using WIX and not being charged for it. Quote: |

| He DID have wap, by the end of the call he didnt, and verichat wouldnt work.
Yes, I am saying that, if they have WIX, and are not on a BES, those 3rd party apps wont work without charging you, on a BES, it wont charge because its accessing MDS. | | Offline

| Please don't take this as arguing, I'm not trying to do that with you.....
But that being said...........
So anyone who is on BIS and who says they're able to use third party applications which need use of the wap.cingular APN and says they are not being charged on their bills is lying. I just can't beleive that. There are too many people on this board who are doing so for that to be the case........................
Is it not possible to add the WIX feature to one's account without adding the WIX line in billing which charges for use? (another data support rep. told me this once.) | | Offline

(another data support rep. told me this once.) | Its not possible, the only way to get the wap.cingular APN put in our switch tool is to put it into the billing system, nobody has the ability to change the network switch, it all comes down straight from the billing. Even if I WANTED to give someone free wap access, I couldnt. | | Offline

| Well I guess we either have a bunch of liars here or some people who aren't paying attention to their monthly bills.

| I am having a problem, then, and even after viewing numerous threads/FAQs for hours, I'm not sure what to do.
I am trying to get applications enabled on my 8700c (specifically, Google Local). I am constantly getting a "Network Unavailable" message when trying to run it. I also get similar problems with Ramble.
I have tried setting my TCP settings to the wap.cingular APN as instructed on several threads in this forum, and that does not appear to work. I have also tried leaving it blank, and putting "proxy" in the APN field, no luck.
I have the BB Unlimited Data plan with Voice as well.
Is there a way to access 3rd party programs with Cingular? Or am I out of luck? Also, I only see the "cingular browser", not the "Blackberry Browser" as is mentioned in other threads. Is this the one I should be using, or will I be incurring data charges?
Thank you. I know I am new, and I know that the FAQs address many of these issues, but unfortunately the information in the FAQs dont seem to be helping my situation (believe me, I tried! :( ) Any help that can be provided would be greatly appreciated. | | Offline
