Default Cingular Blue vs Orange

Please Login to Remove!

I'm switching over to the 8700 and Cingular has asked me to call in and switch to an Orange account from my old ATT Blue account. I put my old SIM in the phone and it works as is. I did some searching here and I can't see any advantage to keeping the Blue account, but I want to make sure.

Is there any reason to stay on my old Blue account? Any advantage to the Orange account?

Thanks.

I can tell you this....I was Blue, wish I could go back. When I got my 8700 they made me switch to Orange. My Blue sim worked fine. I lost all of my discounts (I had discounts for the USAF, I did get them back eventually but I still lost some of my other misc discounts), my free weekends (although I now have 5k mins on weekends, I'll never go over that!) and I now get charged for incoming text messages (out of my control and .10 for every one I get).

IMO, if you can....stay with Blue.

Default Blue users can force network changes

Blue users can force network changes Orange can't. But you don't get rollover minutes. If you aren't on BES the proxy settings and account add ons for third party apps can drive you bananas on Orange.

Thanks for the responses.

I'm on BES and also have my company paying for service, so I'm really more worried about ease of configuration and features.

So...price aside, for a BES user is Orange going to be basically comparable? Is there a big bennefit to forcing network changes?

Thanks again.

You can use "proxy" for the APN with Blue.

Wirelessly posted (7280: BlackBerry8700/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102 UP.Link/5.1.2.9)

Does using "proxy" result in extra data charges?

Eventually all "Blue" users will be migrated to "Orange" users...Cingular will not want to maintain any individuality for AT&T's network.

(you can either go now or later...)

I hope several people go now. My wife was on "Blue" since the ATT days and she loved it. Right after they "switched" us to Orange, we saw a 30% jump in her monthly bill for the same options. Needless to say she is now on T-Mo with me. I refuse to give Cingular anymore business unless I have no other option.

Those on Cingular, please note, that this is soley my expirence and am aware that others have differing views. I trust if you are on Cingular your expirence has been different than mine and you are much happier.

The service should be the same, but some older ATT customers had some great prices, unlimited minutes, special price structures that are not available with Cingular. I switched and saw no difference, but I didn't have any special deals.

Default Blue vs Orange

I'm an 8700 user with a Blue account. I'm staying with my "Charter Account" for as long as possible... only if forced will I move to Orange.
