Default New to Blackberry & need help with my 7290...

Please Login to Remove!

Hello everyone!

I am looking for some friendly advice on my new phone (blackberry 7290). Now firstly, you probably think I'm mad but I don't pay extra for the emails to be sent to the phone as it's a luxury I can't afford yet (I am a student) I brought it for the scheduling/calender/orginizer side of things.

So firstly I want to personalise the phone. How can I upload pictures from my Mac onto the phone? I have the software but I when I looked at it, it was all about the email side of things. I also can't use bluetooth, only with the handsfree. My network have told me this is because I do not pay the extra money for email!

Also I would like to know in english how to get new ringtones, themes, etc.

I am a girl and totally lost on this one, so need some help!

PS Also, is there a short-cut way of locking the phone without having to select it within the menu?

Hi. To stop the flaming ahead of time, let me point out that there are literally thousands of threads which answer all of these questions. May I suggest reading the Sticky Thread FAQs. I will give you some short answers.

Using a MAC really limits your options. Really. Check out PocketMac for more information.

1) Ringtones. They can only be downloaded using the BlackBerry browser. Since you are not paying for the BlackBerry Data Plan, you can not download ringtones.

2) Pictures. Sigh. Check out if either GTPhoto or Ascendo have Mac versions.

3) Bluetooth - will not work AT ALL with the Mac. If you have a PC, with XP SP2 and an approved BT adapter AND you are running v4.1 on your handheld, you can do data sync. You can not transfer ringtones or pictures via Bluetooth anyway. So forget it.

Go into the Phone option. Click the wheel and select Options, then General Options. Set Dial from Home Screen to No.

Now from the main screen, you can just touch the "K" key to lock the keyboard.

Welcome to the boards...

Since you are a Machead, you will need to get some extra software, which RIM is started to provide free to sync your device to your calendar, contacts, etc. There are a few threads here for the Mac world, most cases, you are probably better to download things OTA. (Opps, nevermind, you don't have access, so you will have to download to the MAC and then load from there).

Not sure which provider you have, but for about $50, T-Mobile does the BB & 1000 minutes plan which is the cheapest plan that will allow you to completely use your BB (Email, browsing, 3rd party apps with access to the net, IM).

You can set a password on the device to lock it which doesn't require you to go through the menus after setup.
