Default Can I have different ringtones for different names in my Address Book?

Please Login to Remove!

I apologize if this has been asked and answered before but I searched a number of keywords without coming up with the answer. On the 8700, is it possible to designate different ringtones for different people in your Address Book? If so, how do I do it? If it cant' be done in the native address book application, is there any third party software that allows you to do it?

Thanks
Mike

Yes you can.
Open the Address Book and select the person.
Click the trackwheel and select edit; click the track wheel again and select "Add Customer Phone Tune".

Now you can add a specific ringtone for a contact.

This is available in OS v4.1, which the 8700 has.

Not quite accurate...

That field only appears in the address book record AFTER you have added one in the first time.

Default Ringtones by Category

Has anyone heard if this is possible? I have looked around for it quite a bit and have not been able to find anything to support this, but I would really like this feature. Then I can label all of my office-business folks as a ringtone and one for third party software vendors and then one for family. I would still want the individuals as well, but doing whole groups would be great as well.

Anyone have any ideas?

Under the Profiles menu is the feature New Exception. You can add multiple contacts to a list.

Hope this helps.

Thanks. I feel a little foolish. I had read this in the past and it did not even register. This is certainly a work-around.

You might set up categories and when you are setting up the exception, use a filter to limit the choices when you're adding a name to the exception.

Additionally, just for information, be carefull about setting the "Use Profile" field in exceptions. If it's not set to Active Profile. The volumn or mode (Vibrate) won't follow when you change profiles.

Hope this helps.
