Default How To Tell If a 8700c is a Refurb

Please Login to Remove!

I was having some issues with the Bluetooth on my 8700c so Cingular's Warranty Dept. sent me a replacement which DOES state that the unit is refurbished on the outside of the bag it was in. Is there a way to tell if it is? I looked at the PIN and it is a higher number than my current unit.

Being that the 8700c is still fairly new I would think that they would not have to many refurbished units.

I was also reading this post (Got my 8700c replacement - some minor differences found.) from Seattle18 and the device I received has the same features, which really makes me think it may be a new device.

And it could be the newer version and still be refurbished. There's nothing wrong with refurbished....

Yes, there is a way to tell if it is refurb. I am drawing a blank on the exact details of how at the moment. Its one of the numbers on the sticker under the battery, cant remember which one. I found out when exchanging a 7290. The Cingular return agent stated that the refurb units start with a zero. If I had a Cingular unit in from of me I would know it if I saw it. Maybe one of the Cingular employees that post here can confim.

Also, normally refurbished units come in a plain box with nothing else, no cords, no chargers, sometimes no battery or battery cover... (as always, there are exceptions)

when you received your package it should say on the plastic that it is a REFURBISHED phone.

Yeah, I was told by Cingular warrantly exchange that they do have refurb "kits" which contain all the accessory items (holster, charger etc.) They usually only send these out when they've run out of their device only refurb packs.

The device only refurb comes in a small Cingular branded box. The box is a little smaller than a paper back book.

I did in fact receive this "kit" for both units. I was just curious if the one I have now is a refurb. I realize that it is labeled as one, but it just seems new.

If it's labeled a refurb, it's a refurb.
