Default mail possible on other SIM?

Please Login to Remove!

Hello sir & madam,

I will be getting a 8700c from Cingular and am using it to receive corporate email (MS Exchnage). I am wondering if I can still receive email if I use other operators' SIM (assuming the BB is unlocked)?

For example, if I travel to other countries, I would like to use the local pre-paid SIM card, and I'd like to be able to receive mail without switching back to Cingular SIM.

What config is needed?

Thanks in advance. Cheers.

The first response is NO, but the reason is there is NO pre-paid blackberry plans on any service provider international. You can use Pre-paid sims for phone only.

The BEST option is and I use it is for $19.99 a month you can get unlimited international roaming with Cingular. So no need to switch sims or do anything but receive e-mail.

Thanks. What if I were to use a post-paid SIM from a foreign operator that has Blackberry support (but not our corp email)?

As long as you have a Blackberry Service Plan on an account (SIM) you will be able to use your Blackberry as normal. I havn't found and easier way then to just use Cingualr 19.99 is a good deal considering how much I use it on the road. I havn't found an forign carrie with a ebtter deal but I find it a pain in the but to remove the SIM in the 8700 just due to how it is designed. You need twezers or a pair pf pliers.

The way I use remove the SIM is by just slightly lifting it with my nil and then pull it out. I have done it so many times that now it is done as quick as any toher phone.. As to the int'l SIM I also agree, it is best to get the Cingular unlimited int'l plan if one is to use it overseas a lot. I traveled recently and used it for a couple day in france and the charges for my use were about $2. I don't have the int'l plan on but if I was to to use it more often it will definatly pay to get the unl BB int'l.

If I already subscribe to the Cingular Unlimited plan, and then subscribe to another postpaid BB plan, what config changes I need to do in order to use the new SIM? Can the new config be done from the device itself?
Thanks.

It depends on the setup you have a BIS or BES for the email. If BEs no change is really need. To surf the web you may need to chnage your gateways and a few other things. If you are using BIS you need to have Cingular release your PIN from their system and sing up with the new providers BIS. Someone may be able to say if this MUST be done but I think it will be need to be done.

I still think 19.99 a month is your best opotion with Cingular, I dont know any other provider in the world with Blackberry unlimted service for less then 19.99 in the world.

Thanks.
I have just subscribed to an additional BIS plan from another carrier, but I don't seems to be able to receive mail from my corp BES (can't send either) with the new sim. My cingular sim still works ok.
Any advice?

You may need to resync with your BES server, try doing a desktop sync when you are able to reach your BES and maybe try making a new encryption key that generally kicks off a sync. I have had that issue before and just had to wait 24 hours and it started to randomly work.

Default Has anyone activated the international roaming or a trip and then canceled it?

Will Cingular allow a short term (one month) international roaming activation?

I believe that it's considered an add-on and you can add/remove add-ons during the life of your contract (phone).

It is what is called a "Feature" so it is month-to-month, no effect on your contract.

interestingly it starts to work, but only a few mails (from BES) came in on the 8700, the rest are not. Then it stops working.

Can anyone confirm that this $19.99 option is still available? It is not mentioned at http://www.cingular.com/international
Nor is it mentioned when I view "My Features" from the Cingular webpage. There is a $5.99 per month "World Traveler" option that discounts the international roaming rates.

I phoned Cingular and they told me my options are: (a) pay the international roaming rate; (b) sign up for the "World Traveler" option to get discounted roaming rates; (c) install a pre-paid SIM in my destination country. They didn't know about this $19.99 option.

All of these apply to phone calls only. Data will be billed at $0.02/kb, my BB unlimited plan only applies to the U.S. and Canada.

THANKS, got it, I called and signed up for it. To clarify, this plan gives you unlimited DATA roaming, but you still must pay the per-minute VOICE roaming charge associated with the country you are traveling to. I went with the $69.99 plan, which will give me a discounted voice roaming rate for some of the countries I am visiting. For the time being, they removed my Blackberry unlimited data plan and replaced with the international unlimited data plan. When I return from my travels, I'll reverse this.

FYI, the toll free number to the Cingular International department that deals with Blackberries is 1-800-335-4685.

I am on Cingular BIS and I am in Canada now and put a canadian sim card with a data plan in and i instantly got all my emails and everything is working as if I had my cingular sim card in my 8700c. I did not have to make any changes to my BB.
