Question Side Button for Speaker-phone?

Please Login to Remove!

I've tried to search this first, but I apologize in advance if someone's already dealt with this. Can you program the left-side supplemental button to activate the speaker-phone? I can only seem to get it to load different programs or profiles. I have the new Proclip car carrier (very happy with it) and if I occasionally don't want to use the BT ear-piece, it would be nice to just hit the side button to activate the speaker-phone.

Options / Screen-Keyboard and scroll down to the bottom. Change the Side Convenience Key Opens option.

Argghhh - I never actually looked for that!
I just use the convenient speaker/$ key to turn on the speakerphone.

Is there something on the car carrier that is in the way of the speaker phone button that won't allow you to use it while it is in the carrier? If not, why not just use the button programed to activate the speaker phone?

My buddy works at a cingular corporate store, he tells me the cingular or BB reps (I forget which ones) were in his store and they had push-to-talk on their 8700s, working from the left side convenience button. I know it's been speculated on this forum that the left button is for that purpose, well he confirmed it. He had no idea when cingular will roll that out. He was telling me that cingular doesn't want to follow Verizon's PTT debackle, so they're going to roll it out PTT slowly. Now I know that it's always posible it will never happen, I'm just passing on what I heard. Take it for what it's worth.

No, there's nothing in the way of the speakerphone keypad, but the alternate side button is easier to reach and when the BT is in range, the keypad button doesn't want to work.
