Default Car Charging issues - Help!!!

Please Login to Remove!

Got a 7100r last week. The guy at the AT&T store says...."I'll throw in a car changer with the purchase". He gave me a Motorola car charger with a small usb port. I asked him "Is this going to work, since it's a Motorola?" His response is "Yes, no problem its the same USB port, they use this charger for the Motorla V3 cell phone as well."

Got it the car today and the battery is at 10%, plugged it the charger into the cigarette lighter.......the 'lightning bolt' on the battery icon appears and the charging light blinks even when the unit is off BUT the 'battery bars' do not turn solid nor does the baterry meter go up, in fact it went dows to 0% and the phone shut off? I could not even use it when it was plugged in as I would get a 'battery power is too low for the radio' message. I could only get a charge when I got home and plugged the unit into the wall charger that came in the package.

- Does this sound like a charger issue? Has anyone else had experience with charging the phone in the car, if so what charger was used? Can the unit be used while plugged into a car charger even if the battery is extremely low (less then 5%)? And does it charge via the car charger while it's on, or does it have to be off?

I had a very frustrating day and since I am very new to the whole Blackberry experience I am not sure if this is common (if it is then this may not be the unit for me as I charge my phone in my car very often). Please advise.

thanks in advance for your help.

Default Help2

PS. The Mototola charger's charge light was illuminated the entire time it was plugged into the lighter and the unit so it looked like it was doing something.

I have a moto usb car charger and a generic import usb charger and they both work fine on my 7100t?

Do you have a 110 USB charger in the house, try that... if it works it's the car charger, if not maybe the phone has an issue...

Whoa... slow down there....

Not all USB chargers are created equal...

The moto SYN0768 will not charge the BB properly if at all... it does not provide enough output.

The moto SYN0847 will provide enough to charge the BB... in fact maybe more than enough.

May I suggest OEM car charger?

Just checked my charger its a SYN0768 . This may explain the problem. Will go to my dealer tomorrow. I would love to order from your link but I'm in Canada and your site says that you do not ship internationally. Thanks for the advice though.

That's true we don't ship to Canada...

Go back to your dealer and ask hime for the ACC-047173-001 from RIM.

rcg--

I have at least three different cigarette lighter adaptors that have USB ports on them. My 7100 still doesn't charge. Is it my cord (the one that came with the 7100) or the charger? If it's the charger, is there a charger that has a USB connector that would work?

Question Motorola Baterry Charger - Help Please!

Dear Friends,

I live in Brazil and it is impossible to find out BB stuff here. Luckly I got a 7100t from the US. Now I need to buy a new baterry charger (I lost the one I had) and I ordered a Motorola for the V3 mobile phone (it has a mini-usb connector).

I plugged into BB 7100t and nothing happened. Does anyone knows charging specs for BB 7100t (i.e. my motorola wall charger is Output 5.0 V 550 mA - is it enough???). I have one here from NOKIA which is 5.7 V 800 mA. Should I use the Nokia one (I have not tried).

Thanks in advance, greetings from Brazil.
