I have 55 sprint phones onmy account and can't communicate the way I need to. Like I said I did search the forum and didn't find anything about this. Not at the current moment I believe. You could use the @teleflip way, but there is no way that I can think of to send SMS to any carrier from the 7100i. I dont think switching back to a treo is the answer, maybe just anothe SP

or you can send SMS-Like messages to other phone numbers by using the messaging addresses of other carriers. i do this numerous times every day. also between the 55 7100i (we like to call it Nextel, yes we know it was bought out) use pin messaging

SMS - Email
Verizon-- @vtext.com

Cingular-- @mobile.mycingular.com

T-Mobile-- @tmomail.net

Nextel-- @messaging.nextel.com

Sprint-- @messaging.sprintpcs.com

ATT-- @mobile.att.net

Here's an interesting tip I got from Nextel Blackberry Level 2 support...

If you send a message to [email address] (instead of "messaging") it's gets sent as a Level 1 message.

I'm sure it works the same for Sprint.

It is actually @page.nextel.com (not paging)...

Eh? I'm confused. I have a BB 7100g, which can't be THAT differenent from a 7100i, and I send SMS messages every day. I just go to messages>Compose SMS then either select the phone number from my address book or go to [Use Once] and type in the phone number...

I've sent messages this way to other BBs as well as my sister's Nokia phone.

Kenny is not the phone itself as much as the provider. Some providers disable some features, some providers charge separately for services rather than bundling them together. Bottom line is that someone from T-MO or someone from Verizon for example can do it where someone from Nextel can't.

Wirelessly posted (7130e VZW: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0) BlackBerry7130e/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/105)

Nextel's 7100i can only send MMS but it can receive both SMS and MMS. Yes, you can just type in the phone number and send a message. It's just a MMS. But, keep in mind that not all phones can receive MMS. Verizon has disabled MMS functionality in all of their non-camers phones.

I would be careful of sending a MMS (as an SMS). For instance Cingular charges a user $.25 per MMS if they do not have a MMS package. That can rack up. $1 for 4 MMS's, no thanks. I will disable my MMS before that happens. It can really make someone mad and put you in an embarrasing spot. There is no way around it other than the options listed, so if SMS is big for you, you might be better to switch carriers

another solution... is to download AIM on your phone, and send an IM to a users phone, and they can reply to that, which will go to your phone.

that should work right??

also... if you sign up for email, is it free? or is there an additional cost?

edit: and thanks for your help all!

If you send an MMS message to a non MMS enabled Sprint/Nextel phone, or a phone with only an SMS package, the system converts it to an SMS message.

I have the same unlimited text messaging plan from Nextel. It does only send MMS which is no big deal because they CAN be sent to any phone (they convert it).

Anyway... I am really UNHAPPY with Nextel's text messaging. Some people get my text messages, some don't. I get some peoples text messages, and some I don't. Most of the time I get them hours later. I've complained and all they have me do is turn the phone off and back on.

I'm giving them 1 more month to fix before I ask for my money back and cancel the plan.

I do also have IM+ from ShapeServices. You can download from Handango and it is like $45 one time. You can connect to multiple services (AOL, Google, Yahoo, MSN, etc...). It does not require any special plans from Nextel. It works great too. You should download the trial.

i am unhappy with nextels text messaging also. it is very slow.
on my 7100i i dont see an option anywhere to send SMS. so i am going to take off my unlimited text messaging, and add a data plan, so i can use the internet and all. my AIM will still work right? (i am using ramble, which works pretty good!)

i love the walkie talkie feature, but the texting is horriable may have to go back to cingular... idk i dont want to though.
