Okay, I finally was able to win an 8700c on ebay, after trying for month. I just won it tonight, so I won't be getting it for a few days, but I was hoping I could get some information on what to do when I get it.


What should I do first before implementing it as my lifeline?

First, Congrats!!! I know you have been trying hard to get one. I am glad things worked out for you.

Now. You'll have to pick a service provider. I recomment Cingular (). If you dont, then you'll have to make sure the device is unlocked. After picking a service provider, you will have to pick a data plan. Most offer true unlimited packages, the price differs from provider.

Then load that bad boy up with some 3rd party apps and your ready to roll, right after you do the latest upgrade on your OS of course

When I got my treo there was a long list of what to do. Ha.

I am choosing Cingular, and am getting just the unlimited data plan. Not any voice plan.

I need to figure out where to for 3rd Party Apps.

I know I want a chat program (That Cingular won't turn around and charge me for), A Bible and maybe some other fun stuff.

I know about the BES thing, but I don't think I can do it yet. Paying 50 a month is bad enough, bumping it up to $75 a month for BES is going to be more of a challenge. So I am going to hold off on the $50.00 a month.

I know I need a case as well.

Any other thoughts? :D

You dont need the BES if you can use POP access for your email. If you cofigure your APN settings correctly, you shouldnt have any issues with extra charges (if you do, you shouldnt have any issues getting them removed). Check this thread for great 3rd party apps:

It has been a long road, but finally I conquered. ;) Ha ha.

I suggest google talk for chat... Search on here for jabber, and google to set it up to talk to all of your accounts. Best thing is that it's free and I've been using it for about 2 weeks and it is pretty decent... If you just have AIM, you can get by with Ramble IM.

Now I need to get mine...
