| 7130E: New Verizon Firmware Coming... Please Login to Remove! Was on the phone with the head tech in the Northeast, said he spoke with RIMM earlier and they will be releasing a new Firmware for the 7130E at the end of this month (April). Will be addressing a still existing bluetooth issue? A problem with using the BB as a modem for a laptop and upon disconect the phone does not clear properly. Also, more work to the EVDO switching issue. | | Offline

Can't imagine why it would be necessary. I haven't read of any remaining major issues after the firmware update of a few weeks ago. Add that to the fact that carrier level BB techs know what they're talking about somewhere around 5% of the time makes the information a bit suspect. But I could certainly be wrong.

| Did the tech say end of April THIS YEAR? With Verizon you have to ask a lot of specific questions. | | Offline

You're not referring to this?
My VZW 7130e was constantly getting "Data Connection Refused" messages so I was directed by Verizon data support to install the device software that was updated 3-8-06 and that solved my problem. The tech also mentioned that the update was intended to solve a Bluetooth issue: I can't speak to that since I don't currently use the Bluetooth functions of my BB. | | Offline

How could I be refering to that, it was released in march? I am talking about another firmware release, AT THE END OF APRIL. There are still many outstanding issues, more than I have mentioned in the thread. I know they say the end of april, that could mean april of 2009, but hey, at least we know they are working on it | | Offline

| I'm not holding my breath.. It takes VZW months to develop and test a new firmware. They just released one in March (and that one took months). I think the earliest I would expect is end of summer. But if its true, I welcome any fixes. | | Offline

| VZW doesn't develop the firmware - RIM does, especially if it will fix bluetooth issues and whatnot. all of the issues listed above seem to be something that RIM would address within the OS and base radio stack not VZW modifications with the radio stack. That would still lead to a fairly lengthy QA process, though. Assuming that the code has likely been developed or was already being worked on by RIM, I would imagine that 2 months could be a fairly easy turnaround period for a carrier to meet (but that's my uneducated opinion).

Dead on, I was told RIM and Verizon have weekly meetings regarding outstanding issues and then RIM works on the fixes. | | Offline

| I know there's little chance of this, but maybe Verizon can fix their massively space-wasting default theme in the next firmware iteration. I like the look, but the top needs to be far more compressed.
As far as hardware issues go, I've been happy with all the releases since the Telus option became available. I've been using the latest Verizon firmware since it came available with no issues. Any teaking for resource usage or new options would be icing on the cake. | | Offline

No look and feel options are really ever chaged or updated unless their is a problem with it. So, don't hold your breath for updated or new themes...Ain't gonna happen | | Offline

However, the latest firmware addresses many of the issues we were seeing (BT crashing, data connection issues). The end of April seems a bit too soon for another point release. | Perhaps it will even make the silent mode truely silent. Imagine that, I don't want the phone keys making sounds when I have it on silent mode. | | Offline

I personally addressed that on the phone with one of the RIM people when they were in the TECHS office. It's now on their list | | Offline

| considering that's another setting independent of the profiles (Options > Screen/Keyboard), why would setting the profile to silent have any affect that other setting? i can understand the logic behind such a request, but given that they are two separate settings all together, i wouldn't necessarily have expectations of it being like that. isn't key tone set to off by default? i'm curious how many people actually turn it on (it would absolutely get on my nerves).

| Not KEY tone, as in a beep, but the sounds of NUMBERS dialing ( As in PHONE keys, not BLACKBERRY Keys). Those cannot be toggeled off by the screen/keyboard option.
Woo hoo! Jungleland! That's great!! Thank you!!! | | Offline
