Default OS .284 - Found another improvement

Please Login to Remove!

I just helped a friend to update to the Rogers .284 OS. He isn't a Blackberry fanatic so I didn't edit or replace the Blackberry.alx file. I can confirm that with a straight-up installation you do not get the Zen theme, just the normal Dimensions and Insight themes.

I did however discover another major improvement with OS version .284. (I had installed Bharti so quickly after getting my 8700 that I just took this feature for granted.)

In the original factory OS, when I messaged my friend in Blackberry Messenger, his Blackberry would vibrate and the red light would flash but the home screen gave no indication why. It was only upon installing Rogers .284 that the home screen Blackberry Messenger icon feature was enabled as it is in Bharti .284 (i.e. a small balloon with a number indicating how many new chat messages are waiting.)

I actually think that this is a significant feature. Together with the ringtone volume and telephone improvements, it is a good reason to upgrade to OS .284.

I could be wrong and it was just a bug in his 8700. But he definitely did not have the icon prior to upgrading his OS.
I wonder if anyone else has the original Blackberry 4.1 OS and can comment?

Okay. Then his machine's OS must have been messed up.

Ignore this thread. I stand corrected and will slink back into my cave.
