How can I tell the number of hours my phone has been used? I have an 8700 from Cingular.

If your BB is not connected to a BES and does not have an IT policy, than go to Options->Status and type buyr. This will show you the amount of minutes and data in KB that your BB was used.

Very cool...didn't know about that one. Mine just says exceeded 250k for the data usage and exceeded 60 minutes on the voice usage.

I am on a BES. I am looking for something like a life timer like the Treo 650 has. I want to make sure Cingular sent me a new phone. Call me paranoid! HAHA!

Oh, did not know that there is a limit where it does not show more than 60 minutes/250kb. I was only aware of the limitation with BES/IT Policy.

Go to the menu in the Call log (phone) app and select status.

These numbers can be reset. So thi will show the minutes since last reset.

My device has been reset several times and the total and last call times do not get reset.

for data usage a get 232.3k and voice exceeded 60 min. just wondering is this resetable or not>

mine has been used over 25 hours since last reset and the buyr just shows "exceeded 250k" and "exceeded 60 minutes"

Is there a way to RESET what BUYR displays under Options, Status? Perhpas a WIPE using Javaloader? Anything?

I seem to remember reading that there was a deal for you to try out a Blackberry provied you didn't exceed certain usage. If you exceeded that usage, then when you took it back and said it wasn't your cup of team, if the "buyr" reading exceeded the agreed limit, it was yours for keeps, and no refund.
If that is correct, then obviously "bury" can't be reset.

(Nor, of course, can an odometer)

Not true..an odometer can be both reset and FROZEN so the mileage put on does not register..
