I have a user with a 7290 BB OS v4.0.0.219 and he needs to get a couple of his SMS messages off of his blackberry (printed, e-mail, etc he doesn't care.) I have done a search on this site and there is a forward as option on the 7100's, but that option isn't available on this model. Anyone have any ideas as to how to get that information off of there?

Also, if we were to move his SIM card off to a 7100 series BB, would we be able to use the foward as option?

Yes. . Ive done it with simplistic Samsing s105 using the Samsing EasyGPRS and connecting via IR and select all SMSes I wanted to backup and copy to PC. I'd leave the recent ones or the ones that have something warm I want on the phone.

Why wont BB allow me to backup and read them later ?

Sounds almost like you need a forensic program.
Paraben makes a PDA forensic progarm called "PDA Seizure."
You can download the SMS messages with this software. I used it on a 7520 with no problem.
Paraben has a demo, which works for 30 days (I think) but I am not sure what other limtations it may have.

thanks for all the quick replies. I was going to try to just copy the text, but we need the time and date stamps as well. I will try the forensics program and see if that works.

Not really forensics.. more of a old messages archiver for reading / reference in the future.

tried the forensics program, if you need to try to pull deleted info, or stuff like that off of the device, then it would work well, but when just trying to get the data to try to print it, it really isn't going to work. It is almost a hex format. Will have to look for a different solution.

I use the Paraben software for cell phone forensics. That program (Cell Seizure) prints out excellent reports.
I can only guess that the demo version of PDA Seizure must limit the reports that it can run.

Hmm.. can you see if SMSes can be extracted and saved?

tried the report - the trial version wont let me run one.

I thought that might be the problem. You may be able to copy and past from the program, but I'm not sure.
I will say that the SMS and Text Message reports from Cell Seizure are fantastic.
