Default Tmo 8700 worth the wait!

Please Login to Remove!

ok, for the record, I don't even have it YET. But on BoyGenius's post, I noticed the box on the unit shows that it includes IM services (ie AOL, YAHOO, ICQ, MSN) Correct me if Im wrong, but I didn't think the 8700c or 8700r included that.. I recall Cingular customers having to order and install Rambler and other IM programs.

I personally feel it looks better too! Black, silver trim around the screen.. very sharp!

Anyways, Just waiting for the 17th, so I can get in line with everyone else and be able to get one. (buy the phone outright, since I already have a corporate plan)

If TMO does the same thing as they did with the 7100, the IM client will be that crappy OZ one which uses SMS instead of data.

Yup. Inhoc, make sure you have an unlimited text plan if you are planning on using the built-in IM client that comes with it!!!

Yes, OZ Client which uses SMS is correct. The worst IM program I have ever used...takes anywhere from 5-10min to receive IM's...very sad excuse for "instant" messaging.

I've never seen it take that long. It did on my 7105, but in my few weeks of usage on my 8700c, it was delivering almost instantaneously.

I've never used it, but some folks on HowardForums swear by it, but they're using device that don't maintain a constant GPRS connection, unlike the BB.

we get pages to our handhelds via SMS/MMS - if the IM client did anything like those do, i wouldn't use it.

BG, does it come pre-loaded? if so, if you do a security wipe, it is loaded when you register on the network (like the 7100)? i honestly hope TMO thought this one through and did not do this (which would be my assumption, since they have it available for download).

No not pre-loaded, you have to download it from the internet browser, it is a bookmark. Sucks so badly...

Not necessarily. You can use 3rd party programs if you wish.

T-Mobile - No, its not even released yet.
Rogers - Maybe, check some of the third party repair/parts sites.

regarding buying the unit on the 17th from the local tmo store...i went to 2 stores in my area...and they said that you can only purchase it during the first month of sale as a new customer, or a upgrade customer....not outright....

i dont know if this is the case anywhere -- I am just trying to let them know I am an upgrade cust...my 7100T broke recently, then i got a 7105t, and then came on this forum by accident...and i learned the 8700g was coming out, i went back and returned my 7105t within the 14 days...only problem is that i renewed the contract already...i hope i can still use my upgrade option....

currently i am using a bb 6210...it sucks so bad, but hey, it could be worse -- I just wish I had bluetooth so i could use it in my car, hehe, 1 more week

If you got upgrade pricing on the 7105 as a result of/in consideration for renewing your contract---your contract extention should be cancelled once you return the 7105t to T-mobile within the 14 day grace period. (Otherwise, you have received nothing in return for extending your contract with TMO.)

Good luck
