Default Cingular Network Orange/Blue

Please Login to Remove!

Anyone had issues in Boston, MA area. I heard that Cingular actually has two networks the orange and blue. most people are on orange after they bought out AT&T but i have heard alot of people complain about the network and drop calls bad reception issues and have gone and had Cingular switch them over to the blue network. Anyone know any more about this.

you roam on both networks without knowing it if needed. can you be exclusively put onto the blue network? you sure can. would you want to ? i would say depends on the network in your area....i am in washington and the blue network is huge here and during the integration to the gold standard i have had no issues with drop calls. its possible your area is going through the gold integration and experiencing issues with dropped calls and stuff...

make sense? its sim dependant as well. i have an older sim that wont allow me to change to a dedicated network, but the new 3g 64k sim allows me to change my dedicated network. if you call cingular would the average rep know how to change you to whatever and such dedicated network? not likely, the more experienced tenured reps are more likely hip to it....

orange is cingular wireles
blue is att wireless
now they are interchangeable because you can roam on each others network as its all cingular wireless

the gold network is what its being called during integration

What do you mean 64k sim? Can the 8700c be upgraded with a new sim to support 3G?

If so, how do I get the new sim?

You can just go to any cingular authorized dealer and request a 3G sim card should be no charge. I had to do this with my previous phone which was a Treo 650. However I am hearing alot of complaints including myself about the reception and dropped calls here in the Boston metropolitan area. A few people I have talked to demanded to be switched back to the blue network aka AT&T. I was told that in 3 months the so called Gold network would be completely integrated. However you hear that crap all the time.

64k, one of the newer sim cards. Sim cards do not upgrade the device hardware.

And for the record, Cingular has the least amount of dropped calls of any other network
