8700g Arrived Today

Talking 8700g Arrived Today

I just wanted to let everyone know my new T-Mobile 8700g arrived today (and goodbye 7105t). I'm not sure how much it wound up costing me. I told my corporate rep to just get it. Anyway, it's finally here. Not bad for an original launch date of 2/20.

I was at the wireless show last week in Vegas and the T-Mobile booth rep told me 4/17 for the release. As soon as I got back into the office, Monday of this week, I called my rep and said get it on order. She 2nd day air'ed it me.

Me == Happy!

P.S. For the geeks, the software rev. is 4.1.0.284

Sweet!!!

Play with it and tell us what you think of it. I was reading on cnet.com and the review wasn't that much except complaints about the qwerty keys being cheesy. Is that true?

Though I always think that the BB 7520 is one of the sturdiest BBs, I can't wait to own this BB as well.

I just Zen'ed up the unit. What a difference the theme makes. Also, I am soooo glad to be rid of the reduced keyboard. Oh, and d00d! EDGE is way faster than GPRS.

Hey guys,

I have called around a few places including TMO Business Sales -- I guess there is no way I can get this before Monday now as a regular customer huh? ESP for the upgrade....

Can anyone give me some pointers on what my best option is...

Also I want to be ready to go right outta the box when it comes in...so could you also tell me why everyone is all about the zen theme and how I can get that loaded on to my phone, and what exactly is the benefits of having it should i decide to load it....

Did you install Bharti or just change the .alx file and Zen was an existing theme?

Call around. I think some T-Mobile stores have one or two in stock already in preparation for this weeks official launch. Have been using mine for almost a month now and will never go back to my 7290!

I used the Bharti download, and then used JavaLoader.exe from the JDK to move C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\8700-v4.1.0.284_P2.0.0.120\Java\net_rim_theme_bb_dimens ion_zen_320x240.cod to my device. This was way easier _for me_ than Seattle18's method of moving the Vendor and Blackberry files around, and then use the apploader. One caviat; non-AppLoader loaded .cod files may get removed if you try to use AppLoader for something else because it didn;t put it in there in the first place.

Just my opinion, but I think that Seattle18's method is really really simply. Delete the Vendor file, delete or rename Blackberry.alx. Download the replacement Blackberry.alx that he has kindly provided and throw it in the directory. Bingo: you're good to install Bharti the old-fashioned reliable way.

I don't understand cheesy. My first BB was a 7100t so I don't know any other keyboard. The biggest improvement for me is both the speed of the device and the speed of EDGE. My stored filters in the message display come up in a fraction of the time.

Now I'm in the process of organizing the home screen icons. I have two browsers (t mobile and the BES) and they have different sets of bookmarks and I'm not sure which one I want on the home screen.
