Default Any NEW issues with dust on screen?

Please Login to Remove!

I know this topic has been discussed, but I heard they corrected the problem with dust getting under the screen on the 8700, so I wanted to learn if anyone was still having these issues recently?

Thanks

My baby is full of dust. I sprayed it with some compressed air.....it just spread the dust out. It doesn't affect the functionality of the bb, you can only see it when the screen is off and you are in bright light, esp. outdoors. I don't sweat it. By the time RIM gets it figured out they will another device out that I want more than the 8700. I'll probably have a 7130 by the end of the year if, I mean when cing. offers it.

How long have you had your BB. They were supposed to have fixed this?

My first 8700c had a major dust problem. My second was pretty much dust free.

I'm interested to see if there are any such issues with my 8700g. Good news is that I'm actually a T-Mobile customer, which means I can get a replacement if it is. I'll know more on Monday (which can't come soon enough).

Do you mean that TMO will honor the warranty if there's a dust problem?

I got my first 8700 on Jan 05, swapped it within the first 30 days because of dust. Second one has had dust pretty much as long as I have had it. I am pretty sure that the reason some units get dusty and some don't is because some people, myself included, wipe their screen clean entirely too much. It creates static electricity under the screen which turns your berry into a dust magnet, literally!! I'd be willing to bet that the majority of people who have had dust probs are excessive screen wipers.

I just can't believe that RIM would create such a nice resolution screen and then be asleep at the wheel when it came time to protect it, it's really dissapointing.

I agree, but the device is still awesome, even with little specks of dust under the screen. Almost every pda/gadget that I've ever had and I've had plenty has had some sort of minor glitch. It seems like the fancier they get the more glitches they have. The treo 650 is a great example of this. I remember my first Palm, way back when they only had 2 models, the professional and the personal. That thing was as plain as it gets, but it had very few if any glitches. I'm sure there was something about it that made my minor ocd flair up but I don't even remember what it was.

I would hope so. Cingular seems to honor the warranty for dusty 8700's.

Yeah. This isn't new info, is it? I remember a slew of Cingular customers getting replacements for the dust issue.

Yeah, I've heard that too but I think it depends on what kinda mood the rep is in when you call.

Both of my friends got their 8700s replaced due to dust. The new units were "surposed" to be the new units with the problem fixed.

Both have dust after just a few months, one is very bad

How is dust getting under/on the screen? I have a Bestskins Ever screen protector that covers the entire thing. Sorry if this is a stupid question but I don't understand the dust issue.

It seems that some of the BB's, when viewed from the side in the dark with the screen lit, light can be seen along the seam. And if light can be seen this way, than dust can easily enter the unit.
There was an earlier post in a different thread that can be found with a search.

Dust problems are not exclusive to the 8700. I had an Audiovox SMT5600 that had dust under the screen and my daughters pink razr already has dust under the screen after only 3 or 4 weeks. When are the manufacturers going to "get it" and start sealing these things up better?

Nice try lizard dude but I'm not saying that I'm leaving blackberry because they don't support a certain type of text from a certain email service like that crybaby in the other thread. I'm stating the obvious. You must have missed that in your haste to flame me. That's ok bro., when you grow up you won't make those types of mistakes. Peace to you lizard dude!!
