Default New - Blackberry 7130e

Please Login to Remove!

Hello!
I am a new reader/writer to this forum. I also will be owning a 7130e (verizon) blackberry within a few days. I would try to get the new 8700, but as I am sure you all know Verizon does not provide service to this yet. Anyone have a clue when they will provide service it by the way? Also, who here knows the 7130e. I chose the blackberry over the other PDAs on the market, and the 7250 that my brother has (loves it), but I like the smaller design and smartext function on it, which Ive used all my life. Any owners, please tell me all the pros and cons for this phone, and compared to my other Verizon phones.

1 other question: I know blackberry is the only phone on the market with push mail, which is really nice, but I ran into an issue. I hear yahoo! wont allow for push mail to blackberrys, is this true, and if so, is there a way around it?!

Thanks! Any help is appreciated!
Dan!

Dan, I am going into my 2nd week with the 7130, my first smart phone and all I an say is Perfect. I have not had one issue with the phone. The recpetion and audio quality is great and the speaker phone rocks. It paired with my Motorola 700 blue tooth ear piece no problem. I dont use it for email but do use it with outlook and the desk top sync, again solid as a rock. Over all after week 1 with it I have to say im impressed and SO glad I found this site, Thank god I didnt get a treo700

Dan, I went through the same decision-making process you're going through about a month ago. I chose the 7130e because, IMO, it is the best choice for a smart device on the Verizon network. It supports Verizon's high-speed network, it lets you tether the device to your laptop and use it as a modem at almost DSL speed in 180 cities in the US, and the suretype text input system is pretty good. With the newest firmware, it is quite reliable.

As for push mail from Yahoo, at the moment you'll need a Yahoo Plus account that allows POP access. Blackberry will poll that mailbox every 15 minutes and push new mail to your device. RIM just announced an agreement with Yahoo for closer integration, so hopefully in the near future there will be tighter integration between Yahoo and BB, but there isn't at the moment.

Evil Sports - Thank you for your comments. Only few questions, do you have the 7130 for verizon.. so it would make it the "7130e." Also, if you use the BB for Outlook but not email, does this mean addresses and appointments and such?

Mistermix - Thank you also for your comments. I love the fact I can tether the phone for internet speed, eventhough I will not be needing it for this following year. As for push mail, or rather any email for Yahoo!, I can not be recieving and email to my phone from Yahoo! correct? I heard I can forward me email to another website that will allow forwarding to my BB, can this be done?

Other general questions for anyone:
Is the screen a solid size screen, and easy too look at and manuver?
Also, in the latest PCTODAY magazine, there was an article on page 59 regarding BB to be shut down, anyone know of this and the chances for this to happen?

again, sorry for my questions, I just want to make a right decision regarding my phone! Thanks!

Yes I have the E-Verizon service. As for the Outlook I have 3 companies and keep my appointments, travel and contacts with it. I sync it to 2 PCs without issues home and office, something I dont think Palm can deal with.

I was a bit concerned about going backwards since it had No card slot or camera but so far that is not been an Issue. Im sure by 07 those features will be offered and I will be buying ANOTHER Phone

Good News - I should be going to the store tonight and getting my new BB on Verizon service! I played on a 7250 (my brothers) and liked it, but I hope this one is better.

I know what you mean. I love how it is the smallest of all PDA's, and no phone after all is not a problem. Verizon has a 2 year upgrade, I believe(?), so I will be looking then as well!
