I am a realtor in the state of Michigan and my local board is upgrading our lockbox system. We either have to buy new eKeys or a Smartphone can be programmed to be used. I just got the list of smartphones and nothing from RIM is on it. I have a 7100i. Why not a RIM device? There are several phones that work with Sprint, but I am a DC user. Even Palm organizers can be used... Treo, Samsung, and Tungsten smartphones are all on the list. What is the deal?

Bluetooth on BB doesn't support that funcationality.

I'm a Realtor here in Atlanta. I asked the same questions regarding Windows devices and RIM devices. The answer I got was, it is up to GE who they partner with. Some of our devices have software that the makers don't want 3rd parties tinkering with. Good luck with it. And send me some clients!!

My problem is that buying the stupid display key that I can use instead of a Smartphone is about $150 plus it needs to be docked to a landline every night and I don't have a landline. All we have is our cell phones and I don't have an office where I can plug it in... I guess now I am being forced to look at which will cost me more in the long run, switching cell phone carriers or getting a landline.

the key uses the IR function. I would check with your local offica and see which boxes they are upgrading to. When I spoke to GE they told me that the Nextel i920 and i930 "should" work with the new boxes. I have not heard anything new at this point.
